Tony Hawk is in the sandbox. The legend skater is collaborating with Autograph to build Tony Hawk LAND, a game that can be played in The Sandbox metaverse. Autograph, who is named for being the largest virtual skateboard ever made, is creating NFTs for use on the platform based on the Tony Hawks skateboards, equipment and apparel.

For those who haven’t seen The Sandbox, its an online game platform that works a lot like Roblox. Users and developers both can buy land in The Sandbox for their own projects or they can create their own custom voxel assets to sell on The Sandbox internal market.

The selling point for Some is that The Sandbox stores all of these games and assets on a blockchain, giving creators an intimate sense of ownership. Of course, ownership really matters only when The Sandboxs servers are working and there’s a lot of baggage that comes along with the NFTs that they didn’t just get into.
It’s Tony Hawk LAND, but The Sandbox says that the 6×6 space will let users create custom skateparks that let users share with everyone else on the platform. There are also unlockable cosmetics, as well as Tony Hawk’s merch, “including the legendary skateboard that Tony Hawk played in the X Games in 1999.”
All these cosmetics can be turned into 3D voxel avatars “that’re in-game fun to use to build experiences and improve effectiveness.” You should also be able to take them out of Tony Hawk LAND and use them in other Sandbox games.
“I’ve been a fan of modern technology from the first video game and home computers to CGI-powered machines. Since my experience with the metaverse fascinated me, I’m excited to introduce the culture of The Sandbox to a virtual landscape,” said Tony Hawk.
There is no word when Tony Hawk LAND will launch, but The Sandbox says that you must stay tuned for more.
