MethodJosh, a former Twitch streamer who was banned from the platform in 2009 after facing a series of rape, sexual harassment and grooming minors, has been found to be working under a pseudonym and recently developed for a NFT foundation. The streamer, whose real name is Josh Thompson, was a developer and cofounder of Gem.xyz and recently worked in that new field.
Now aware of the allegations that were made back in 2020, Gem decided to suspend Thompson immediately. The company says that he didn’t know the allegations and claims that Thompson worked under a name, Neso. This is despite Gem having documents with his full legal name, including documents that gave a substantial amount of money to the NFT venture.

This was uncovered by a BuzzFeed investigation, which published Gem documents that listed Thompson’s full legal name, nationality and home address. It comes after alleged that Thompson used his platform to make sexual advances on viewers, sometimes as young as 13 years old. He was also accused of raping a streamer.
“The first time that we investigated, we heard that a member of the team, Neso, engaged in a sexual misconduct pattern,” reads an ex-discord statement, saying that the interruption occurred with the company. “As you may know, our company is completely remote, and Neso is a developer anonymous. This was the first time that we heard of any kind of allegations about these individuals. After rewriting the allegations, we determined their actions was absolutely against our values and expectations. We exited Neso immediately.”
However, despite Gem saying that Thompson was a “developer”, BuzzFeed also discovered evidence that this could be downplaying his involvement with the company. The past statements from Gem staff and testimonies from those closest to Gem show that Thompson is a cofounder.
The community response is mostly negative, many in the Discord calling out Gem, but did not realize this information was hidden in a background check. “I’m shameless”, explains one user. “You said that he was anonymous to the team. He is the largest shareholder of the company. How is he anonymous?
“You used the term sexual misconduct to describe rape and child grooming. It’s just disgusting.”
The discord moderator who spoke of Vasa was very skeptical of these concerns.
“It’s very public that I left Neso after my knowledge about the past’s past.” Why’s it so hard to agree? “It is like trying to blame his previous gamesr friends for what Neso has done. It absolutely doesn’t make a difference.”
Vasa was attacked for her saying “end of conversation”. Back to everyday user problems.”
Thompson has not responded to the recent report, and not to the resurfacing of the allegations.
