Team 17, developer of the beloved Worms franchise, announced it was going to release its first line of NFT products. The game, called Meta Worms, will be released with 26 years of work in the generative art collection. The NFT is formed in partnership with the reality gaming group, which responsible for all these franchises and the upcoming NFT releases.
The company was insisting that its set will be environmentally friendly.
The energy usage is one of the most important concerns in the NFT and crypto space. According to the adage, 50 percent of NFTs will only use power equivalent to the annual kettle use of 11 households in the UK. There are no exact details about whether Team17 plans to make 100.000 NFTs or multiple sets of Meta Worms.
The new project received mixed reviews.
Games developers who decide to dip their toes into NFTs experienced the same mistakes. Some fans expressed anger and disappointment over the announcement. Others even called for a boycott of all Worms products until Team17 has back. Team 17 seems to be firm with its decision, even though it had strong backlash.
Team 17 isn’t the first to try hand at a NFT, it isn’t coming to be the last. The majority of game developers backed up their project because of the lack of success. While Sega and CSG Games World both planned to make NFTs, they quickly dropped the NFT after the initial report.
Ubisoft is one of the biggest developers wanting to implement NFTs. They still want to explore the technology as they haven’t completed their current plans yet.
