Even though MDL Disneyland Paris Major finished just a few days ago, the qualifiers for the next one are nearly over. Sadly, EPICENTER will be the last Major before TI 9. This also makes it one of the most important ones because it’s the last chance to get a decent amount of DPC points. Let’s take a look at what happened in some of the regions.
The first team that secured a spot for the Major is… you guessed it – Team Secret.
Puppey and Co. are undoubtedly the best teams in the world right now. They have one of the most stable performances of all teams, which is one of the deciding factors when you choose a “best” team.
Team Secret finished first in the Group Stage. In fact, they only lost one game and it was against Team Liquid. The MDL Disneyland Paris Major champions will try to rewrite history again in Moscow.
Coming in second is Team Liquid. The TI 7 champions had a shaky performance during the Group Stage. However, they were able to quickly bounce back after some very back-and-forth action during the playoffs.
In order to get the spot for EPICENTER, TL had to go through OG and Alliance. Despite some questionable clutch plays, at the end of the day, they were able to defeat their enemies, which gave them the ticket for Moscow.
Last, but certainly not least, is OG. They were able to deal with Alliance in the Grand Final of the Lower Bracket.
Unlike some of the previous tournaments, NA only has two slots for this Major.
Forward Gaming is the first time that is going to Russia. Even though not many people expected them to finish first in the group, they’ve done it. What’s more, they did it without losing a single game, which is even more impressive.
This will be their third Major of this DPC season. Hopefully, they will be able to show better performance compared to the last ones where they couldn’t really bring their A-game.
The second NA team is, as expected, Evil Geniuses. They were able to deal with complexity gaming in the Playoffs.
There weren’t that many surprises here, even though Na’Vi were very close in terms of getting a slot.
The first team that will defend the CIS pride during EPICENTER is Gambit Esports. The young squad was able to finish first in their group, despite the fact that they had the exact same score such as VP and Na’Vi.
The biggest favorite here were definitely Virtus.Pro. However, it seems like they are already focusing on TI 9 because their performance was pretty questionable. They lost to Na’Vi in the upper bracket of the playoffs but luckily, they were able to redeem themselves later. I hope that they will step up their game because as you know, VP is one of the best teams to bet for.
