Former Days Gone creator John Garvin and former director of PlayStation’s Visual Arts Michael Mumbauer had teamed up to create a new studio. The first game of the game is a blockchain called Ashfall, described as the “first true Web 3.0 triple-A” title for PC, console, and the Hedera network.

As an IGN report, Ashfall is ironically a world game whose global health has succumbed to global warming. Blockchain, NFT, and cryptocurrency are all energy-intensive, leaving huge carbon footprints, but in this game we can explore a space obliterated in the same global warming. It will start as a game with narration based single-players before branching into PvP and PvE.

The Hedera-network mentioned is a blockchain and can be sold, built, and traded in “exclusivity” (the ensuing technology). Although the game is about global warming, there is still no mention of how the studio plans on keeping the use of blockchain environmentally friendly.
Garvin was fired from his position at Bend Studio because he was a “disruptive personality” while even saying that he had “a few heated discussions.” Mumbauer worked on Uncharted, Last of Us and Days Gone before leaving to find That’s No Moon, which he left within a year.
“Michael and I’ve worked creatively for almost two decades, so that’s our chance to make something really exciting,” says Garvin. “It’s like coming back together with the band. It’s our goal to create a real next-gen, open-world experience that takes users’ own time. As always, we’re focused on creating beloved characters, captivating stories and a evolutionary gameplay, and a world worth exploring, not just in games, but also in other media.
The two’s new studio’s focus is on a “cinematic transmedia world”, which is obviously obvious that both of them have ambitions beyond games. The studio was even said to be a “triple-A gaming and entertainment studio.”
