Have you ever thought about a Dungeons & Dragons session, “Damn, I wish I could play as a character full of random-generated wild animals and generate in a recurring campaign that is already pre-defined and costs real-life money to play.” I’m not sure TTRPGs are the right thing for you. But at least you’ll be the target of one of the latest NFT games, Gripnr.
Gripnr will allow players to buy NFT characters for their D&D adventure and play on the blockchain. The blockchain is meant to keep track of progress, to keep records of the games and statistics. If you don’t mind the fact that you’re going to have to pay a couple of gas fees each game to keep it running, or that the creators haven’t figured out how they’ll prevent the fraud occurring, as we’ve seen in other NFT communities.

As mentioned in a recent report by Gizmodo, which explains everything how Gripnr will do, the real difference – you can sell your NFT character by the end of the campaign. This is because adding its stats would probably make it more valuable. In other words, Gripnr will likely appeal to those who want to play TTRPGs to earn real-life money, which is hard sell to fans who have never played for years without a financial incentive.
The first campaign, The Glimmering, will start in spring. 10.000 NFTS will be sold, and it will consist of characters in 12 different classes.
So far it doesn’t seem that the project is endearing to the TTRPG community yet, a project leaders are clashing with angry replies on Twitter. Many people feel that bring money and play-to-earn elements into Dungeons and Dragons will detract from the fun. Some are afraid that the blockchain campaign is being used to scam players, as we recently saw from similar play-to-earn projects.
