Esports organization Method has again leveraged the World of Warcraft raid race to world first to help it lead all channels in terms of viewership.
Meanwhile, Turner “Tfue” Tenney and Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek continue to provide consistently strong viewership that tops all other influencers on Twitch.
The following channels are ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.
Method to the Madness
Both Method and energy drink brand Red Bull announced plans to live stream coverage of the World of Warcraft raid race that began this past week, but despite Red Bull’s efforts to broadcast top guilds like Limit and Pieces, Method has continued its dominance of viewership for the grassroots event.
Method’s average viewership of 28K over 126 hours of airtime outperformed Red Bull’s competing coverage that averaged 6K CCV over 118 hours. Red Bull was even outperformed by Limit’s raid leader Max “Maximum” Smith on Twitch. He averaged 10K CCV over 83 hours of airtime.
The Alternative
Dota 2 is well-known for having a strong base of alternate-language fans, particularly Russian-speaking ones, but this past week, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive showed its diversity when the Portuguese-language channel Gaules helped the Intel Extreme Masters Chicago produce some of the strongest viewership on Twitch for the week.
The channel’s 2M hours watched was just under the 2.2M hours watched that ESL’s primary CS:GO channel managed to record. The main ESL channel for coverage produced a significantly strong 18K average CCV though. Gaules coverage over the course of the week averaged 12K CCV despite having fewer hours of airtime.
Speaking Personally
Esports have been the driving force among many of Twitch’s most-watched channels this month, but a pair of influencers, in particular, have been able to produce consistent, stable viewership so far in July.
Turner “Tfue” Tenney has carved out his position as the most-watched influencer so far this year, and it isn’t even all that close. His 57.7M hours watched so far outperforms Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who is second among personalities with 44.5M, by more than 10M hours watched.
Meanwhile, a resurgence by Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek playing Apex Legends has paid dividends for both Grzesiek as an influencer and Apex Legends as a title.
