We take a closer look at some of the combos worth trying in Dota 2’s current meta.
One of the most interesting things about every new Dota 2 patch is the fact that we have access to new combos. The professional teams might need a while to figure them out, but they eventually come up with something. Needless to say, this has a massive effect on the meta, and people start using those things all the time.
Patch 7.32 didn’t bring major changes to the game, but almost all heroes received something new. Some of them, such as Sven, got several buffs, but there are heroes that were nerfed to the ground. Patch 7.32b brought some balance to the game, and since it’s been a few weeks after its release, we have a good idea of what to expect from the current patch.
Considering that The International is just a month away, it is unlikely that Valve will release a new patch in the upcoming weeks. In other words, there is a good chance that this will be this TI’s patch.
With that being said, let’s look at some potential hero combos that could work in the current meta. Some of the options we’re about to list here were popular in previous patches, but after the recent changes, they might become hot here.
Omniknight and Outworld Destroyer
If you’ve been playing Dota 2 for more than 7 years, you’ll remember this deadly combo. OD and Omni were the hottest options many patches ago because these two heroes were almost possible to kill.
Even though OD was among the go-to mid-laners, the hero slowly transitioned into the safe lane. This is where Omni came to play because his Repel (Omni’s 2nd ability back in the day) allowed OD to be almost unkillable. The hero could easily right-click his opponents and win the game with little to no effort.
Even though the current state of the two heroes is slightly different, they have everything it takes to dominate in the meta. Even though OD did not receive a lot of changes in 7.32, Omni suddenly became a lot stronger than before. His Heavenly Grace now dispels his target as well as the hero itself, whereas Hammer of Purity costs less mana and provides more bonus damage.
These changes mean that OD can do even more damage than before and be an even bigger pain to deal with. However, the hero will have to get a BKB because he is susceptible to magical damage.
Faceless Void and Invoker
This wasn’t a “combo” in the same way as OD and Omni. However, these two heroes were commonly picked during the time when Faceless Void became one of the hottest offlaners in Dota 2. Even though this is no longer the case, we think that these two heroes might become more popular again.
One of the reasons why this combo might be a thing is because of Void’s new and hot Arcana. As you know, the hero finally received this special item, thanks to the 2022 Battle Pass. Those who reach the required level will be able to unlock this item and use its new voice lines and tons of other perks.
Void has been one of the hot heroes in the last few patches, and he will continue to be popular. However, Invoker is not as big as he once was, especially in the last few patches. Bzm was among the few pro players that tried to use the hero, but he was just not as good as other popular midders.
With that said, 7.32 tried to change this by providing the hero with a couple of interesting buffs. For starters, his Deafening Blat and Sun Strike now deal slightly more damage, which will allow the hero to secure more kills. Another interesting change is to his Ghost Walk, and it includes the following:
- -10s cooldown
- 60s duration
- 450 slow radius from 400
- 175 mana cost instead of 200
This may not seem a lot to some of you, but it will definitely make Invoker stronger. The hero also has a couple of talent changes. For example, his level 10 talents now give -6s Tornado CD and + 20% EMP Max Mana Burn.
Sven and Magnus
Before we share our thought about these two heroes working together, we’d like to point out that Magnus and Sven was never really a meta combo. In fact, Magnus is a hero that works with pretty much any melee, including Sven. Nevertheless, the latter also has his own cleave, so he is more than capable of farming himself.
We think that this combo doesn’t need an introduction. Sven has been a popular hero in some metas, and it seems like he is back in 7.23. The new patch added a lot of perks, and he suddenly became one of the strongest heroes in the meta.
The new Sven has a higher base HP regen, less CD on God’s Strength, a higher duration, less mana for Warcry, and more. Needless to say, some of the best teams in the world have already started picking him, judging from the TI qualifiers.
The reason why he works so well with Magnus is because of the extra cleave damage and Reverse Polarity. Sven also has a stun, so having these two heroes together means enemies must be extremely careful.
Other combos
Speaking of Magnus, it is safe to say that the hero can work alongside pretty much any Melee. Whether you pick Juggernaut, Void, Phantom Assassin, or even heroes like Riki, having Magnus is a plus.
Another combo that we expect to see a lot in the upcoming weeks is Huskar and Dazzle. These two heroes have always been a force to be reckoned with, so we won’t be surprised if many pro teams start using them. Even though Huskar received more nerfs than buffs, he continues to be among the stronger midders and one of the best mid-game monsters.
