One year after reportedly being interested in the player, the Toronto Raptors are finally signing Dennis Schröder. According to Shams Charania, the Canadian franchise was already interested in the player last offseason. But at the time the player signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, the German player agreed on a two-year, $26 million deal, as per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This move happened a couple of weeks ago. More specifically, less than one hour after Fred VanVleet signed with the Houston Rockets. But for some reason, it has been one of the most underrated acquisitions in the NBA Free Agency so far, since not many places appeared to report the move.
Schröder, 29, is a great point guard backup who helped the Los Angeles Lakers several times last season, especially in the series against the Golden State Warriors. He averaged 12.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 30.1 minutes per game last season. Now he is set to defend Germany in the FIBA World Cup, taking place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia this August.
As we brought here today, Schröder is one of several players we will have the chance to watch during the World Cup. Only for Germany, the country that Dennis plays for, another four NBA players will be on the floor. Besides the new Raptors player, Maxi Kleber (DAL), Daniel Theis (IND, Franz Wagner (ORL) and Moritz Wagner (ORL) will try to help Germany to win the title.
