The Fortnite Mix Up Mondays tournaments are a great addition to the competitive calendar, how does this new type of cup work for the game though?
A brand-new type of Fortnite competitive event is launching for Chapter 4 Season 4, Mix Up Mondays Fortnite tournaments! These are new competitions to join the cash cups and other events. It’s a new way for players to compete within Fortnite. Unlike other tournaments in Epic’s roster though, these have a particularly unique approach to scoring and items. Mix Up Mondays are tournaments which are going to be different every single week.
Fortnite is a game with tons of different ways to play. Some players stick to tried and true tested ways to win games of Fortnite, looting and playing it a bit safer. However, others have won by doing literally nothing, just doing memes till the final circle, or pushing non-stop with no regard to safety. There are as many ways to win as there are players. Fortnite tournaments on the other hand have a scoring system which only really rewards optimal styles of play.
Epic is aiming to change that with the Mixi Up Mondays Fortnite tournaments. Every week is going to see a different rule set or item pool lined up. Players have a chance to compete in games where different areas of skill are valued and reliance on the most meta weapons can’t carry you to victory. If you want to jump into this new and exciting form of tournament for Fortnite in C4 S4, this is how they’ll work, how you can take part, and how the rules are going to be different each time.
Fortnite Mix Up Mondays Tournaments
The rule set and scoring for each Mix Up Monday changes from week to week. So far, they’ve been using the same Victory Royale-focused ruleset but with a different build of items each time. In the future, we could see scoring have some variance along with items though. This is how you can rack up points in the Mix Up Monday tournaments so far:
- Victory Royale – 25 points
- Eliminations – 1 point each
Most tournaments give points for placement, but the Mix Up Mondays Fortnite tournaments aren’t doing that. It’s Battle Royale or bust. Even elims aren’t yielding that much in the way of points, just a single one.
This format is expected to run through October. However, there will be changes from week to week. We’ll see things get mixed up a bit more in the future. There’s one other aspect of the game which is changing from week to week though, the items.
Item Pool – Fortnite Mix Up Mondays
The main focus of the first batch of Mix Up Monday events is the item pool. This is going to be changed every week. Some weeks will have a similar build to the C4 S4 weapons. However, others are going to use a more retro or unbalanced set of items.
In terms of what’s available, Epic isn’t explaining things in advance. You have to jump and see what’s enabled that week. A nice throwback to that annoying year or so where Epic refused to hand out any Fortnite news or patch notes officially, leaving everyone to just guess what was in the loot pool. How do you play a tournament not knowing what loot is even active though?
The best strategy will probably be to play it safe in the first game or so. Keep a close eye on all loot when you’re getting equipped. While you might typically walk right past some guns, it might be safer to pick things up more often in case your preferred loadout just isn’t active this week. Players who don’t get too attached to certain weapons and just play with what they find are probably going to be at an advantage at Fortnite Mix Up Mondays.
Battle Royale or Zero Build?
One factor that’s made competitions more complicated in C3 and C4 is the addition of Zero Builds. According to the live Fortnite player count, these two modes have roughly the same number of players. While the core FNCS is focused on Battle Royale, these smaller tournaments are including Zero Builds more and more. The Mix Up Monday tournaments are going to feature both Builds and Zero Builds. Players can compete in either. You can just select which one you want to play in. Given that these two modes have different loot pools as standard, the varying item picks each week might fit one more than over.
Since the new Fortnite Ranked mode is now separated between the two game modes, so is competitive. Players can utilize either of these, depending on which mode they perform better in.
Who Can Play in Fortnite Mix Up Monday Tournaments?
Most Fortnite tournaments are fairly open, this isn’t a game that puts up a lot of barriers. Some tournaments do require you to hit a certain level in the game’s Ranked mode first though. What about the Mix Up Mondays Fortnite Tournaments?
There isn’t actually a Ranked requirement to take part in Fortnite Mix Up Mondays. Since they have a more casual ruleset there isn’t a huge focus on hitting the higher tiers. There are still a few things you’ll need to do first though. The game requires you to have Fortnite 2-factor authentication activated for it to run. There’s no getting around that. This makes your account safer anyway though, so it’s definitely worth setting up.
On top of that, you need to have your account level on 15. That’s different than your seasonal or C4 S4 Battle Pass level. Most players who have been playing Fortnite for a while will easily be passed Level 15, so this won’t affect the vast majority of the people who play Fortnite.
Mix Up Mondays Fortnite Tournament Dates
The tournaments are going to be held all the way through C4 S4, and presumably in whatever new Chapter or season to get next. These are the upcoming dates for this style of event.

That’s how the Mix Up Monday tournaments are going to work for Fortnite this season. It’s a unique format that has a lot of room for variety over the coming months. With the current FNCS season just being a final, not as open tournament, these more accessible cups are more important than ever. They’re the main way for players outside of the very best Duos to actually compete!
Along with Fortnite Mix Up Mondays, there are going to be Cash Cups, Solo Cups, and a handful of other tournaments running regularly. These don’t have the huge prize pools of the FNCS but they’re a fun way to compete competitively this season.
