Cowboys vs Giants Prediction – 2023-24 NFL Week 1

by Shane Lambert

The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants will play in the late-night game on Sunday, September 10th, 2023. This will be the standalone game for Sunday night in Week 1, a game that the Giants will host. However, despite starting the season on the road, Dallas is the team entering as the favorite. They are set at -3.5 with bet365 sportsbook and odds of -110 on the spread. My Cowboys vs Giants prediction is that Dallas will win this game on the moneyline.

Cowboys vs Giants Prediction – Injury Report

The New York Giants, for a team opening their regular season, had a fair number of players on their injury report. They listed eight players on the report, one that was a little bit odd.

Usually, NFL teams update the status of their players on the injury report during the week. The Giants did not list any of the eight players on the report as anything except for limited in practice. That was the case for all three practice days, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Usually, when you look at these reports you see changes for at least some players. That made New York’s report look a little different than others. You had to wonder, in reading the injury report, if they were just using “limited” in a default kind of way.

But not many of the injuries affected their starters. Darren Waller, the team’s TE1 is questionable for the game. Otherwise, it is backup players who are questionable or doubtful.

Dallas had fewer players on their injury report. However, three of the players that appeared were starters. Dallas backers should be interested in game-day updates regarding Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, and Donovan Wilson. Overall, you have to think that the injury report was about even. The Giants had more players but Dallas’ players that were on the report were higher in the depth chart.

Betting odds: Dallas vs New York

Dallas is a really interesting team this season. Dak Prescott has a good receiving core to work with in Ceedee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup. The addition of Cooks to the receivers could be huge for the offense. He was with the Houston Texans last season and he was not exactly happy about being there. There should be an expectation that Prescott will have a better season than he did last season when he threw for the most INTs in the NFL despite playing just 12 games.

Dallas is available on the moneyline at -165 for this game (bet365). This is a game where it is hard to oppose the Cowboys. There is, after all, a trend that NFL bettors should be aware of.

Dallas has defeated the New York Giants in 11 of their last 12 games. That has a lot to do with Dak Prescott. It seems that the Giants’ franchise simply hasn’t solved Prescott over the years. My recommendation is to go with the Cowboys in this one at -165. I’m not keen to go against strong trends without a compelling reason.
