Life was one of the best StarCraft 2 players to ever touch a mouse and keyboard. He was dominant, adored, and on top of the world.
That is until he was convicted of match-fixing, and sentenced to 18 months in prison, all at just 19 years old.

GET THIS DANIEL GUY OFF THE CHANNEL WE'VE HAD ENOUGH ??????????????????
This video is ??????????????????
Yes he should be arrest if there is so much money in this tournament.
Its like a robber dont get arrest because he robbed a small Bank, like wtf the last sentences of this vid
Man I wish theyd let it slip. Idk man.
Waste of time this vid.
How about this for an offensive gesture ?
"Prison seems a little much in this case"?
It doesn't matter if he "just" threw a single game instead of the whole series or that it happened in a PC game. He got paid to defraud regular people betting on his games and betting organizations. That's not exactly a crime without a victim you take a laissez faire approach on.
? call the cops ?
"He didnt throw the series, just games."
Wtf kind of logic is that?
I WORSHIPED Life. His story is heartbreaking
life was on top of the world.
or was he ?
This vids comments are a dumpster fire.
Glad so many thumbs down , dude was greedy and I’m glad banned for life… great video till the last 30 seconds … he knew what he was doin and deserves it
I must say that most of this channel’s videos are quite ?
Well done mate, nice video!
Thanks much. ?
The answer is yes you spastic.
The guys a cheat and a criminal.
The fact that you defend it because you're a fan boy makes you pathetic.
So sad you made the ? video because your content is normally so good
???
Ok
?
when you say the repudiation of game is worth the future of a 19 year old kid, your completely missing the point of legality of gambling in South Korea……
It's NOT OK to ?
when you see its daniel, dislike and decide not to watch the video lol
Well, he is not ? now
The left can't meme ?
?
???????????
All of the ok meme aside, it sadden me to see maru dominate gsl. Maru was the same age, and the 2 of them were fiercely competive back in the day. If only life didnt messed up, we couldve had the jaedong/flash matchup of SC2
????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????
Is the reputation of a compagny more important than the future of one of its "employee"? If you seriously ask this question than you don't quite understand how this world works XD
H?nk H?nk
?
?
oh n?
this gave sc2 and the esports a big hit .. he was and is such an asshole just like savior .. he was a good zerg but i hate him for doin that.
people didnt learn from broodwar lol
Criminal! Game or not, it's still a crime. So for me, his reputation is gone.
It doesnt justify actions but because hes 19 (legal) and he tarnished the name of a company. Investors and the company wanna see prison time. I don't agree with it but when u mess with others big money, you will do time.
Nothing about the actual video. Why brigade a video about starcraft of all things =_= Go spam their twitter or something.
kek ???
?
prison for throwing a game in a video is too much, but if u throw up a hand symbol… ???????
? this host should go to jail for hosting that other video ???
?? this guy needs to be fired ??
?
Well I was happy to see some Starcraft content again, so thank you so much. But as always there were some mistakes: That was not GSL Season 4, it was GSL 2012 Season 4, if you were to count seasons from the first one it probably would have been season 15 or so.
That end was pretty bad. You do understand that the original matchfixing scandal involving savior (albeit combined with Blizzard sueing Kespa and the two TV Stations broadcasting Starcraft OGN and MBC Game) resulted in several teams closing down and MBC turning their eSports channel into a KPOP channel? People lost their jobs because savior and others match fixed. Starcraft 2 always struggled in Korea, but Life's matchfixing was a major part in why Proleague eventually shut down and almost all Kespa Starcraft teams were dissolved. So I think he got of pretty easily. You have to understand that Starcraft in Korea was seen as a noble sport where untainted young men fought it out, matchfixing ruined that reputation and changed how eSports is viewed in Korea in general. SC2 was a chance for a new beginning, but Life tainted it just like savior tainted BW. I think Life was lucky that it was changed to probation after 2 months tbh.
You’re approaching Life’s punishment from the human angle, which is understandable. But gambling, and in particular match fixing, is one the main ways that money gets laundered. So now we have Life tangentially linked with the local mob. Enabling this sort of practice needs to be punished so people don’t get involved. Organisations that launder money are into some shady stuff and Life, knowingly or not, was potentially facilitating the suffering of others by supplying these organisations with a line of income. Life almost certainly didn’t know all the ins and outs of it but he was a part nonetheless. If there are no consequences for what he did, then what stops people from doing it at all.
This may have not been exactly what happened in Life’s case but this is the reason for the punishment. It’s part of a wider issue rather than just a 19 year old throwing rounds of SC2. It feels weird to say this after the last couple of days but this video really seemed to lack a macro perspective. I get that there’s a story you want to tell, but settling on an overall initial approach might make your videos more consistent in what you’re trying to get across. We have 2 videos in the last couple of days that focus on the exact opposite of each other; the macro versus the micro. Do both if you want, just not either/or.
