It all leads to this. Four-player teams of battle royale professionals battled across Sanhok, Miramar, and Erangel in every corner of the world just to get to this moment: a chance at the PUBG Global Championship.

The prize pool for the 32-team tournament stands at $2 million USD, even before adding in the proceeds from PGC-themed in-game item sales, but at this point in the season, it’s got to be about more than real world loot. It’ll have to be the opportunity to make history as the first true champions of PUBG that motivates the eventual champions.

The qualified teams at the PUBG Global Championship have proven themselves across three phases in 2019 and at multi-regional events across three continents. While all of them are dangerous and capable of racking up enough Chicken Dinners at the PGC to take the crown, the proven champions in the field of 32 teams have to be among the favorites. A look at this group, plus a few other notable teams, should help put PGC into perspective.

Gen.G

The champions of the MET Asia Series also finished in first place in the PUBG Korea League back in Phase 2. With superstar player Pio leading the way, Gen.G has enough talent and plenty of experience on the big stage to be a threat throughout the event. If they don’t make it to the Grand Finals in Oakland, something’s gone horribly wrong.

FaZe Clan

The excessive talent on this team was enough to carry them to back-to-back first place finishes in PUBG Europe League and secure a championship at the GLL Grand Slam back in July. Star player Ubah is the top damage-dealer from Phase 3 and is coming off a victory with Team Russia at the PUBG Nations Cup. No team at PGC has a more impressive resume

Tempo Storm

The NPL’s most dominant team won the preseason event and swept every phase of North America’s top tier PUBG league. Their results at international events where they went against the best in PUBG Esports, are underwhelming. The level of competition won’t be any easier at PGC but there may be advantages for Tempo Storm playing in the first global event on North American soil.

TSM

Iroh and Gustav pushed this team to a third-place finish in the most recent phase of PEL. In terms of experience under pressure, this team has an abundance of players who played on the big stage at Nations Cup. At a tournament like PGC, a team that rise to the occasion and compete as one unit will have an advantage.

4AM

Four Angry Men will always be dangerous as long as they have the most intense fan base in all of PUBG Esports. Oakland Arena will be filled with cheers for 4AM no matter what and they’ll blow the roof off if a player like CPT can replicate his tournament changing moment from the FACEIT Global Summit.

Armory Gaming

At each international event in which they competed, there was always a moment when Armory Gaming and DUCKMANZ stunned the crowd and the field of competitors with their aggression and skill. This is a streaky team, but when they’re hot and able to play aggressively, there’s no team more dangerous.

The PUBG Global Championship is the biggest event in PUBG Esports yet. Beginning November 8 with the Group Stage over three days in Manhattan Beach, CA at the OGN Super Arena, the event continues for another three days the following weekend at the same venue with the PGC Semifinals. The Grand Finals are in Oakland November 23 and 24 Oakland Arena is the perfect place for PUBG’s best to become esports legends.
