Zverev vs Norrie Prediction (R16): 2024 Australian Open Tennis

by Shane Lambert

German tennis player Alexander Zverev will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie at the 2024 Australian Open in an upcoming match. This is the No. 6 vs the No. 19 seed in the men’s singles draw from Melbourne Park 2024. A round-of-sixteen match, Zverev is the one with a little more experience at this stage of a Grand Slam tournament. He is coming in at -350 in the match (bet365) on the moneyline. My Zverev vs Norrie prediction is that the latter player’s handicap will hit in the match at +4.5 games.

Alexander Zverev vs Cameron Norrie Head-to-Head Series

These two players have faced one another six times in the past, according to bet365’s match stats. The Zverev vs Norrie h2h is 4-2 in favor of the German player.

They did meet late in the season in 2023, with Zverev beating Norrie on October 25th in the ATP Vienna draw. Norrie’s victories over Zverev are ancient. The wins go back to tournaments in 2014 and 2013, matches that were not even tour level. In the tournaments that matter, Zverev is 4-0 in a series that dates to back to 2019.

Each player has gone 9-3 in sets played so far at the tournament. Norrie eliminated Casper Ruud in the third round. Norrie was a +220 underdog in the match. Meanwhile, Zverev was sharp in eliminating American player Alex Michelsen.

Zverev vs Norrie Prediction: Norrie +4.5 games

You cannot count on Zverev to win this match in straight sets. He has lost at least one set in six of his last eight matches. That includes some matches against players worse than Norrie. But at +275 (bet365), I don’t think you can quite take the Brit. He does not have a good record in the best-of-five-set format. Furthermore, Norrie is inexperienced at this stage of majors, with only two fourth-round appearances in the past.

I could put Norrie at about +250, meaning the moneyline could be considered a value bet. However, I don’t see enough “margin for error” there in what is probably a losing bet anyway.

However, I like Norrie to win some games in this match. His handicap is at +4.5 with odds of -120 (bet365). He played tight sets against Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur not long ago. I think Norrie stays on the court with Zverev long enough to make this a match and that his handicap will hit.

I also like Zverev to win from behind in this match at +333. You have to be able to see him losing the first round and mounting a late comeback.

Norrie vs Zverev prediction: Draw at Melbourne Park 2024

The winner of this match will presumably face Carlos Alcaraz. I doubt many will be taking Miomir Kecmanovic to knock the Spaniard out of the draw. One key for each player in the Norrie vs Zverev match is that they should win quickly. If these two guys play anywhere near four hours, then they might not have enough in the tank to beat Alcaraz in the next round.
