World of Warcraft viewership stays at the top of Twitch despite another week of hours watched figures dropping back down to earth.
Meanwhile, Borderlands 3 makes a strong first impression despite coming out halfway through the week.
The following content is ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.
Top of the Warcraft
World of Warcraft led all content on Twitch for a third straight week following the release of its Classic servers. While the game didn’t manage to produce more than 20M hours watched, and saw yet another decline in viewership, the performance of influencers like Zack “Asmongold” (last name unknown) kept it ahead of other influencer-driven games.
Last week, the title saw its viewership hit what seemed to be a sustainable plateau at around 3.5M hours watched per day, after declining from the best viewership WoW has ever seen on Twitch. It appears as though that viewership wasn’t going to last, though. Since last week, the title has dipped again to around 2.5-3M hours watched per day.
Looking for New Lands
It didn’t take long for Gearbox Software’s highly-hyped action roleplaying game Borderlands 3 to leave its mark on Twitch. Even though the game was released on Friday, it still managed to rack up 7.9M hours watched in just a few days making it one of the most-watched forms of content on Twitch.
While games like Borderlands 3 typically aren’t intended to have a lasting impact on Twitch, the amount of reach gaming’s endemic streaming platform can provide in the first week or so after a game’s release is a good indicator of just how popular that title is. Additionally, the exposure on Twitch serves as a vehicle for endorsing the game, which in turn helps to sell more copies.
Caught Stealing?
Grand Theft Auto V roleplay streams have managed to hold their own on Twitch after being given a spotlight on the platform by a few top streamers like Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar and Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris.
However, in the past month or so the game has seen a quick decline that has resulted in it generating less than 10M hours watched for two weeks in a row and four total weeks of decline in a row. In addition, the game has had a decline of more than 1M hours watched week-over-week for three weeks in a row.
