EG will be facing Astralis in the grand finals of ESL One New York.
Evil Geniuses have been putting up a stellar performance at ESL One New York. The North American team has yet to lose a single map in the entire event. In their semi-final match against G2, Cvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov top-fragged with 24 kills on Dust 2 while on Inferno they dominated the game showing their prowess on the T-side, winning eight straight rounds from which G2 were unable to recover. EG won the set 2-0 against G2, 16-8 and 11-4 on Dust 2 and Inferno respectively.
Astralis, on the other hand, met against Team Liquid in their semi-final match. Liquid put up a strong fight against the Danish powerhouse taking the set to a best-of-three, but it wasn’t enough to take them down. After losing the first map to Astralis on Vertigo, Liquid turned things around by snagging a quick win on Dust 2 16-9. It came down to the third and deciding map of the best-of-three set where Liquid performed well but failed to convert it into a win. Astralis rounded things off by taking the win over G2 on Overpass 16-13.
Astralis will face off against Evil Geniuses in the grand finals later today. EG seems to be having an upper-hand, having already beaten Astralis in the playoffs 2-0 earlier in the tournament. However, it will be foolish to assume that the 4 times major winning Counter-Strike powerhouse cannot bounce back and take the win.
Even the bookmakers over at esportsbettingtop.com, are hinting towards an Astralis win. The Danes have a 58% implied probability of winning the set over Evil Geniuses. Fans can expect a neck-to-neck battle between the two teams in the finals. It will be interesting to see how the event concludes and who takes the trophy home.
EG and Astralis will fight it out for the championship at ESL One New York grand finals which will take place today at 12 pm CT.
