Was This Game Matchfixed?

by devaccess

Match fixing — intentionally throwing a competitive game for monetary gain — is one of the most controversial topics in esports.

And last week, the Dota community blew up with accusations of match Fixing after legendary Dota player, TI winner and current coach Xiao8 allegedly said he would “eat sh*t” if a game during the StarLadder Minor Chinese qualifier wasn’t a fix.

And what’s more, we have proof that that match has been investigated by a major sports betting company.

So what do you guys think? Would you like Valve to investigate this series to do determine if match fixing occurred?

Deeper dives are always going to be better content than reviewing what most people would already know at that point.

I really dont think it was a match fix tbh. Its not hard to throw games that hard in dota. We watched liquid get flustered and fuck up a bunch of spells without any follow up during TI last year. the faceless void coming in after the morph died was an obvious fuck up. just miscommunication and some players that were quite a bit lower in skill compared to newbee.

i remember the damage a matchfixed game had in the danish league of legends scene. The betting side didnt make an official statement about why they stopped offering bets on the league. I was on the other side of the series and we were heavy underdogs, and when you are in the game you know if someone is matchfixing or not. This was more than a year ago, and you still cant bet on the league to this day

I believe Newbee actually said themselves via Weibo after both Game 2 and 3 that their opponents 'let them win' or something like that
