Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar reclaims his former place as the top streamer of the weekly through two of the games that have boosted him over the last year.
Minors for both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 gave Valve esports-related channels the lead over all other esports this week.
The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) led all esports channels for the game thanks to a big rivalry weekend.
The following content is ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday.
Peak Performance
Once the top streamer on all of Twitch, Lazar has carved out a sustainable niche that has made him consistently one of the biggest names on the platform. Two of the games that have recently boosted Lazar have been the shooter Escape From Tarkov and the odd mix of drama and gaming that is Grand Theft Auto roleplay.
A combination of these two helped lift Lazar back to his first place spot (if just for the week) to the tune of 2.12M hours watched
The Road to Rio
With IEM Katowice 2020 in the books, the focus for Counter-Strike esports has moved to qualifying teams for the upcoming Major in Brazil. Last weekend, the most-watched qualifier broadcast came from the channel Gaules, which broadcasts Portuguese-language streams of major CS:GO events. Over the last week, the channel generated 1.25M hours watched, surpassing the main ESL broadcast’s 995.63K.
In addition to the CS:GO action, Dota 2 is gearing up for its next Major as well. The StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3 offered a qualifying spot to the winning team, and Starladder’s most popular broadcast of the event on the channel “StarLadder1” generated 1.11M hours watched.
LEC on Top of LoL
Following the segmentation of League of Legends esports broadcasts to individual channels, South Korea’s League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) had been the dominant region on Twitch. Last week, however, it was Europe’s turn on top. The LEC reached just over 1M hours watched, making it the most-watched non-Valve esports channel of the week. As stated in previous editions, it should be noted that a portion of the North American league broadcast takes place on Monday night, making a direct comparison of weekend broadcasts difficult.
The LCK will not be able to challenge for its first-place spot among LoL broadcasts any time soon, unfortunately. Due to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), league play in the region has been suspended beginning today, with no set return date announced.
