Valve Calls Off The DPC Winter Tour Major

by Anuj Gupta

Not a good start to the year, with the pandemic causing problems for the competitive scene yet again.

Valve has announced that the Dota Pro Circuit first major of 2021-2022 season will not take place because of the increase in travel restrictions and safety of the community during the pandemic.

Without a major, the first DPC tour will conclude after the end of all the regional league tournaments. Valve has also redistributed the points to the second and third major, adjusting for the loss of the first one. Here is a quick look of the point distribution:

Major 2

  • 1st Place – 680 Points
  • 2nd Place – 610 Points
  • 3rd Place – 530 Points
  • 4th Place – 460 Points
  • 5th/6th Place – 385 Points
  • 7th/8th Place – 240 Points

Major 3

  • 1st Place – 820 Points
  • 2nd Place – 740 Points
  • 3rd Place – 670 Points
  • 4th Place – 590 Points
  • 5th/6th Place – 515 Points
  • 7th/8th Place – 360 Points

The cancellation of the first major will have a significant impact on the teams who have been preparing themselves for the occasion. It will hit harder for all the teams who have been performing well than the teams who were rummaging for space and time to readjust.

Based on the reaction from social media platforms, the cancellation has upset the fans, and the pandemic has once again created a problem for the Dota community.
