After playing one another in a few competitive matches and having some heated trash talk back and forth, the two influencers agreed to create new alternate accounts at the same time. Starting completely fresh, each streamer has spent the past 10 days or so climbing LoL’s competitive ladder with the goal of achieving a higher rank than the other. The winner gets $10K from the other.

Though this isn’t what some would deem to be a conventional esports event, the drama and competitive nature of the bet has turned into each streamer generating a combined 5.96M hours watched since March 4.

Steinkamp is known for attracting strong viewership when he streams. In 2018, he pulled 41.48M hours watched with an average of 21.23K concurrent viewers, but even that average wasn’t as strong as he has had the past few weeks. Since March 4, Steinkamp has pulled an average of 30.44K CCV peaking at 60.72K CCV for a total of 3.72M hours watched across 117.87 hours of airtime.

Adbalrhman’s recent surge has been much more drastic though. Last year he averaged 4.61K CCV reaching 7.58M hours watched over 1.42K hours of airtime. This competition has boosted his Twitch channel to averaging 22.47K CCV reeling in 2.24M hours watched since last Monday, peaking at 37.67K CCV.

Though Adbalrhman’s popularity as a streamer is largely limited to LoL enthusiasts, the reach of Steinkamp, when paired with the drama of a rivalry and friendly wager, has helped catapult his stream to heights it previously hadn’t reached.

Steinkamp is no stranger to using a feud to attract the interest of fans who want to see him win, or even lose. In the past, he has had numerous scuffles with another popular LoL streamer: Michael “imaqtpie” Santana. The two have competed against one another in show matches at LoL Championship Series events and even coached amateur teams as a part of a WWE vs. NXT match on the WWE’s UpUpDownDown YouTube Channel.
