TobiWan permanently quits esports scene following harassment allegations » TalkEsport

by Sonu Banerjee

Last week, when the #MeToo movement was shaking the world of esports, Toby “TobiWan” Dawson was alleged by multiple women for misconduct caused to them. The allegations were followed by a huge support from a major part of the Dota 2 community and even TobiWan’s fellow co-casters urged for his removal from Dota.

After TobiWan’s initial responses to the allegations were met with hatred from many people in the scene, he refrained from making any further statements till today, on July 2nd when he finally released a statement informing fans about his situation.

He started his statement by saying that he took some time before issuing this statement so that he could get away from all the “social pressure” of the community, as well as some individuals in specific.

“It has been horrifying, watching my personal history being stripped of all context, warped with fiction, and being presented to the internet as fact,” TobiWan said in his statement. “Even more disturbing is the speed at which one side of the story was accepted as fact.”

TobiWan urged the accusers who alleged him for harassment to follow the “proper process” through law, instead of relying on “innuendo or evidence void of scrutiny from both perspectives.”

“I want to make it very clear: I am not guilty of any criminal offence,” TobiWan claimed.

The Dota 2 caster then left an apology for the people he had done wrong in the past or whose feelings he might have hurt and proceeded to mention that he’d be quitting the Dota 2 scene.

“As of this post, I will cease to have any public image in esports, I will never commentate again and my focus will turn fully to my family and finding a way to move on in life.”
