The Tragedy of Kjaerbye: The Man who Abandoned the Best Team in the World

by devaccess

Imagine making a career move in your best interest – and being called a snake. Imagine leaving behind a flagging roster just to see them succeed without you. Imagine going from being the youngest Major champion ever to being written off at just 21 years old.

Kjaerbye’s decision to leave Astralis for North was one of the most controversial CS:GO roster changes of all time – and between the memes, the disrespect and his quest for redemption, it continues to affect him to this day.

I don't think it was a tragedy, maybe a bad professional decision but he probably really felt that North was the team to go to.
If he's happy at North and keeps on playing at the highest level of the game he loves, I don't ser why it should be that much of a tragedy. The same can be said about Karrigan, he left Astralis and then the team won a major,he went to Faze to the "superteam",lost in the grand final, now he's in Mousesports and doesn' seems like a favorite to take the Major…
TLDR: Kjaerbye-1 Major/ Karrigan-0 Major

the sad part of that "north highlight" winning that dreamhack had nothing to do with kjaerbye and it was just MSL going off the walls on the AWP and overperforming LUL

He didnt abandon the best team in the world. He left Astralis when they werent doing very well. They only became the best team in the world a while after Magisk joined.

Hey I guess he just wanted to be on a Team where he was the STAR PLAYER… props to him for not bitching about the decision and sticking onto it till now.
He had only 2 options

1. either stay in Astralis and maybe play under the shadow of dev1ce
2. or take a LEAP OF FAITH with north, just to see himself as the star, he always wanted to be.
.
.
.
and hey sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't..BUT THAT SHOULDN'T DISCOURAGE YOU FROM TAKING THAT LEAP OF FAITH…(I think Felps from MIBR also did something similar).

Nah. Magisk was one of the top aimers even before he became part of Astralis. He is basically what completed the team.

Kjaerbye move was similiar to Fly for OG .. they leave was blessing on disguise for the team but sad for them their former team found immediate succes when they leave. Astralis won bunch of trophies including 3 majors with magisk and OG winning a trophies that they been missing (The Aegis) not only once but twice in a row

Never understood the confusion. At the time he left, the writing was already on the wall, give it 3-6 months of the same or worse performance and kjaerbye would be the first on the chopping block from the astralis roster, it just made sense. He wasn't doing well at the time and he was the most replaceable piece they had considering the strength of the core three and the 4th being their IGL.

It's not very tempting to sign a new contract with an org if you know the majority of the time will be spent on the bench. The fact that he didn't tell them is probably because he is young and he wanted to think his decision through before he made it and keep his door to astralis open until he closed it himself. Probably didn't think of the long-term repercussions which is expected from an 18 year old kid.

Kjaerbye and dupreeh had a role clash and with him leaving it allowed dupreeh to be entryfragging which he always has been really good at. Dupreeh was a lurker when they had kjaerbye and wanted to change after a while
