For over a decade, Super Smash Bros. Melee fans have been arguing over the single most controversial technique in the game: Wobbling.
It’s an infinite combo exclusive to the Ice Climbers. For some, it’s horrible cheese that could destroy the game. For others it’s the only thing keeping a weak character in the meta.
The debate around Wobbling rages on, but now that so many tournaments have banned it, are the Ice Climbers doomed?

Okay come on, you showed a handoff with ICs after talking about wobbling resulting in the most hype tournament run. Please clarify that handoffs aren't banned, wobbling is.
Fun Fact: Wobbles actually wanted wobbling banned because he thought it was super broken. However, since no one listened to him initially, he decided to use it a bunch during his career to prove how busted it was.
lol How do you describe wobbling incorrectly when thats literally the only thing the video is about
LET'S FREAKING GO TECHBOY!!
yes more melee content pls
Woooo woooo army!
is that bloody roar in the back
I would have smashed the other player's head if he did this to me.
Losers always making excuses because they can't git gud lol
There are a lot of comments in here about wobbling from people who don't understand melee. Yes it's an infinite but you don't lose the game for being grabbed, you lose 25% of the game because you have 4 stocks to work with in each match. Lots of characters in melee have a goal to get a grab so there is lots of counter play developed to not get grabbed. Nana can be very easy to kill when done well so often strategies are to focus on seperation and killing Nana. Despite IC having excellent ground mobility they struggle in the air so camping on platforms is very common. Because of IC poor range you can pressure them pretty safely from relatively close. No IC players get very far in tournament (typically) because there are more popular characters that directly counter them and MU knowledge can very quickly invalidate a lot of IC strategies.
Sorry about the formatting, I'm on my phone
Uhhhh 12:20 was not a wobble. It was just a really hype Icies combo.
So wobbling is to Melee what GOATS is to Overwatch?
Not just Smash. i think for any competitive game, if there exists a single move that instantly wins the entire game, it should be banned. Period. Otherwise the game eventually devolves purely into "who can get this one move off first." It makes for a terrible game and devolves gameplay into a single move. The fact that it requires less skill than others is especially bad, because then there is less and less incentive to learn anything harder when you could spend more time perfecting the uncounterable-instant-win move.
Competitive games get patches. Dota, CS, Starcraft. Sometimes things turn out to be overpowered and need to be patched. If there was ANYTHING that instantly won the whole game, took only moderate skill, and couldn't be countered, it would be patched out in a blink. Bust Smash doesn't get patches. It's a game on a disc. Assuming nintendo got things 100% perfect out of the box is just dumb.
And who cares if you end up "banning the Ice Climbers?" There's tons of other characters. Do you think people use every single gun in CSGO? Do people pick every single character in DOTA (remember they can't get patched). Does every unit get built in Starcraft? Some shit just isn't meant to be used.
It's as dumb as the Snitch in Quidditch. One player, one move, and the game is over with no chance of comeback. And the only way to not lose is to have a 16:1 lead in goal scoring. That's like… in Counter-strike, being down 15-0, being able to buy a nuke weapon and not only win a round, but win 15 rounds at once for using it. That's how dumb the Snitch is, and that's (almost) how dumb wobbling is.
Shoutouts to Lunar Dusk 👌
hi i came for the comment section
0:27 that dude on the right has a punchable face
the explanation for wobbling was a little off. When you get in a grab, any attacks still put you into hitstun where you can't break out, but mashing after that ends can make the opponent let go. If Popo initiates a grab and does the basic pummel, you can have Nana do her jab that has enough hitstun to make you get hit by another pummel, which has enough hitstun to chain back into jab over and over again. Then they end the combo by using a smash attack with Nana after getting to a comfortable percent that guarantees a kill. ICs still have other cool things they can do like hand offs and different desyncs but wobbling is degenerate because there is absolutely no way to escape unless the IC player messes up the timing on jabs
why this shit made so dramatic 😭😂
I hate Puff more than I hate Wobbling
OOOOOO MORE SMASH 🙂
I've noticed alot of those fight games have extremely bad made metas for competitive play, but hey, it's not the idiot selling shit, it's the one eating it.
I’m so glad people are finally waking up and more majors are finally banning wobbling. For the competitive integrity of Melee it needed to go
Anyone who cries about wobbling just haven’t seen Fly Amanita 😂😂😂 IC’s are capable of far more than just wobbling
