Team Liquid LCS Preview Summer 2022 Roster

For Team Liquid, there is no definition of a successful split, other than winning the Finals. With the caliber of players on this team and with the amount of money they spent, they really can’t have another failed run. TL came into the Spring with big announcements, with Jo ‘CoreJJ’ Yong-in finally getting his green card, they were able to create a roster most couldn’t dream of. They partner CoreJJ with Steven ‘Hans sama’ Liv after his break-out year in LCS and Worlds 2021.
They brought Gabriël ‘Bwipo’ Rau from Fnatic after he swapped back to the top lane. And maybe with the most shocking roster move in the LCS ever, they replaced their mid laner Nicolaj ‘Jensen’ Jensen with Søren ‘Bjergsen’ Bjerg. Despite some struggles at the start of the year with Core’s green card and having to play with Bill ‘Eyla’ Nguyen, TL finished the regular season first, but fall in the Lower Bracket Finals to the eventual champions Evil Geniuses.
Of course, they didn’t do any roster changes during the break as this team already showed they can just dominate the regular season, and they chose to work on their issues regarding the playoffs. And from their first place in our power rankings, I have every ounce of confidence in this roster to do just that.
The thing is, they didn’t have too many problems that are hard to solve. During playoffs, they had some players underperforming. It’s bad, but it happens. These are veteran players that will bounce back. Also, their series against EG saw one of the unluckiest moments of the LCS playoffs. During the now-famous Danny pentakill, the baron healed last minute as it leveled up, making Lucas ‘Santorin’ Larsen miss his smite, a mechanic now removed. Without this movement, who knows what would’ve happened.
Of course, there are some other things they need to be aware of. For example, while having a decent season, Bjergsen did not have the impact most people would’ve expected from him. It could have been because his team was already winning, but I am hoping he will be more aggressive with his play as he had more time to get back into the rhythm. We already saw Hans and Core dominating other bot lanes and Bwipo just being better than his competition. And with a rock of a jungler in Santorin, I don’t see any team reaching Liquid’s peaks.
