Last week, South Korea Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (SKMCST) confirmed that the first esports national tournament between China, Japan, and South Korea, will be hosted in Seoul in November of this year. However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament may also be played online without live audiences.

“We can confirm that we will have the tournament in November, but considering the pandemic situation, we are also considering [hosting] the tournament online,” said a spokesman from SKMCST, in an announcement .

According to the announcement, the tournament will feature four esports titles, covering PC, mobile esports, and other esports categories. The official titles have not been confirmed yet, but SKMCST stated that they will be co-selected by China, Japan, and South Korea. In addition, the host country can select one-two titles.

The tournament will feature only national teams from China, Japan, and South Korea.

SKMCST also confirmed that after hosting the three-state esports national tournament, the organization expected to expand it to other parts of Asia, and plans to push to make esports become one of the official sports titles in the Olympic Games.

In fact, in November of 2019, the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA), China Culture & Entertainment Industry Association (CCEA), and Japan Esports Union (JeSU) had teamed up, and expected to co-host the esports national tournament in 2020.
