Riot Games has announced the first official tournament for its ranked League of Legends game mode Teamfight Tactics, set to take place July 17-18. The competition will be hosted by Twitch Rivals, Twitch’s influencer-based esports division.
Sixty-four Twitch streamers will be invited to participate for a chance of winning the Teamfight Tactics Twitch Rivals championship title and a piece of the $125K prize pool. The full roster will be announced on July 8.
Audiences will be able to view the competition from the Twitch Rivals channel or via individual streamer channels.

Since Teamfight Tactics opened beta testing in June, it has produced 2M hours watched on Twitch every day since, and attracted popular influencers known to play strategy-based games like Hearthstone and Auto Chess .
Developers seem eager to replicate the rising popularity of Dota 2 Auto Chess much in the way that PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) inspired battle royale modes like those in Fortnite and Call of Duty , as well as standalone titles like Apex Legends .
Drodo Studio , ImbaTV , and Long Mobile will host the first official Auto Chess mobile esports competition in Shanghai this October, with a $1M USD total prize pool. In addition, a small-scale Dota Underlords tournament was announced last week for ESL One Hamburg in October; the $5.7K USD offline tournament will be open to attendees of ESL One Hamburg’s main Dota 2 event.
Riot announced its “auto battler” game mode during E3, openly admitting that it was inspired by popular Dota 2 mod, Dota Auto Chess, created by Chinese developer Drodo Studio. The popular modification for Dota 2 has been spun off into a stand-alone game called simply Auto Chess.
Unable to come to an agreement on a deal with Drodo Studio, Dota 2 developer Valve has created its own auto battler called Dota Underlords . Dota Underlords managed to consistently produce more than 100K hours watched per day on Twitch when it launched.
