Today, Renegades lost G2 2-1 to qualify for CS: GO Major finals for StarLadder Berlin.
Since the beginning of the Major, the Australian team has produced quite the turnaround, bouncing back from a 0-2 beginning. They brought down DreamEaters and FaZe Clan after losing near matches to NRG and AVANGAR and have now added G2 to their victim list. For the second moment in a succession, Renegades will join the Major Playoffs as they qualified for the first time in February 2019 at IEM Katowice.
Vertigo was gained by Renegades 16-11. From the first quarter they dominated the match as everybody hit their marks and the teamplay looked deep. The top fraggers were Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad and Justin “jks” Savage, who kept 47 murders together.
G2 missed a small chance in the first part of Dust II, but on the CT side they did better, closing down almost every Renegades assault. The map was one of their finest because of Schrub’s AWP abilities from Kenny “kennyS.” But after winning multiple G2 clutches, François “AmaNEk” Delaunay stuck out as the greatest player on the server. The French scored 16-11 and 22 runs were completed by AmaNEk.
Inferno was the last map, and with back and fourth stages, the commentators anticipated it to be balanced. The first half was balanced, but as counter-terrorists, Renegades went off in the second quarter. In the B bombsite, the Australian team had a ideal configuration and wept G2 in nearly every round with grenades. Renegades won it 16-9 because in the last two rounds, G2 did not have enough cash to bring a decent purchase.
In the post-match interview, Aaron “AZR” Ward, captain of Renegades said it’s great to do a reverse sweep from 0-2 to 3-2 and close a map without suffering. “In a long time, too, it’s our first 16-9 win,” AZR said.
This moment, Renegades were not anticipated to create playoffs in the Major. After Sean “Gratisfaction” Kawai had visa problems and missed some competitions, the Australians had a hard start in the last season and were kicked out of competitions several times in the early phase.
This win over G2 is a statement for all the other teams as this time Renegades hasn’t shocked. As for G2, they’ve played well recently and taken class nine in June into the grand rounds of the ESL Pro League, so they definitely expected to become Legends again in Berlin, but will have to be satisfied with a New Challengers Stage place on the next Major instead.
