When the Shanghai Dragons won this past weekend, I know you were thinking the same thing we were.
How did the worst esports team in the world turn it all around?
Well, the answer is more complicated than you think. Obviously the players were incredible, but the unsung heroes of the Shanghai Dragons’ comeback was the coaching staff and management.
And for whatever reason, esports is sometimes hesitant to give those behind the scenes forces their due.

Right now Overwatch league is one of the most fun esports to follow, imo
Money can’t buy you everything
Except the 2nd best Korean team, new coaches, and a stage final…
And everybody was laughing at me for choosing Shanghai
Perfect timing when they mention sombra and a pop up for a top 10 worst metas video lol.
Shanghai Dragons is “That cool logo” you use when you find out you can change your profile picture
Rebuilding? You mean replacing?
?
only clicked for gamsu tbh
shoudlve been on 100thieves
Wait, I've seen this one before!
Can we have a 'the story of Gamsu' please, as a massive LoL fan, I'd love to know how he made the transition between two very different games.
So basically you talked about what happend 10% of the time and then used the remaining 90% to justify why the title of this video isn't complete bullshit. Now that's what I call a pro gamer move. xD
this is why i don't really follow traditional sports; those teams change to much that often it's not even a ship of thesius situation, they just swap out the entire boat all at once. how can i cheer for the dragons when it's almost a completely different team?
it's more authentic to choose a team based on their color scheme, at least it's always constant
they literally bought what was projected as the second-best team in Korean contenders and not only bought the players but the coaching staff as well, on top of that they bought Gamsu, Envy, and Diem. It's not that the staff was amazing it was the fact that Shanghai was willing to spend the money and not take budget Korean preference like Florida did. The simple answer is that shanghai had the money.
It's different players, different coaching staff, analysts and all the management except GM. If you want to say old Kongdoo Panthera won, sure, but saying it was S1 Shanghai is dumb. I guess this guy must credit Luminosity Gaming with Vancouver Titans' success and not Runaway. Reading a couple liquidpedia articles isn't enough to understand the scene ?
Jin Air: ah I see you're a man of culture as well.
Shanghai Dragons: yeah
Pray for my girl Geguri. nothing wrong with her she just ain’t getting any playtime
They turned it around by buying Kongdoo and fixing their management.
why do you look like you just got done crying?
“If you don’t follow the Overwatch league”
Oh, so pretty much everybody
They fucking rolled every single other team in the playoffs
That Yellow bird/duck plush at the bottom left of the screen carried this video
@theScore esports HA!
All the credit in the world for the players on actually winning but if were talking about the entirety of turning around the team and taking it from 0-41 to winning then thats alllll management. It's the same thing as a general manager in any sport completely turning his team around via drafting , trading, and generally great management. Overall its not really impressive at all in a game play sense, they're a skilled winning group of players with a great coach that could exist on any team, its the managing team that put those players together.
Legit was going to say it reminds me of Leicester City's Premiership win. Good shout, doesn't matter if the players and the coach changes, it's still the Shangai Dragons, it's still that team that was 0-40. Let it be that upset, they didn't really dominate to begin with and had to go through 3 of the best teams to win it all.
Good shit Dragons!
Didn't think this was going to be an don't @ me, thought it would be a "The Story Of"
The guy watching tft in the back ?
I saw Monte's tweet and had the same reaction as this video. The players may be different but the team is still the team. If you want to be treated like a regular sport with non endemic sponsors and the like then you have to also give credit the same way. You can't act like a traditional sports team and then shit on an entire franchise when they do things that traditional sports teams do. I don't know why he thinks he needs to stir the pot on something like that when all it does is denigrate the fans of a franchise who indirectly pay his salary.
wait, this isnt vp
BlessRNG
Geguri was the problem.
I was so/so when I saw them win.
