PUBG Corp. has announced PUBG Nations Cup, a global event that will be hosted in Seoul, South Korea.

Taking place on August 9-11th, 16 national teams will compete for a total prize purse of $500,000 (£394,195).

The teams that make it into the cup will be from across five continents, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. There will be a selection process that sees representatives for 16 countries be chosen “by their peers or through other country-specific methods”.

The cup takes place once Phase 2 of the PUBG esports circuit officially wraps up and before the third and final phase of the year gets underway. The final official event of the year is the $2 million (£1.6 million) PUBG Global Championship in November.

Jake Sin, Director of Central Esports for PUBG Corp. commented in a release: “Nations Cup, the first PUBG-hosted global esports event of the year, is the embodiment of international competition, which brings together the top players from around the world to represent their countries. Nations Cup will close out an exciting summer of PUBG esports and we look forward to continuing that momentum throughout the rest of the year.”

Prior to the PUBG Nations Cup, there are two international events scheduled in PUBG Corp.’s esports circuit. The GLL Grand Slam: PUBG Classic for mostly-Western teams will take place on July 19th-21st, with the MET Asia Series: PUBG Classic following closely on July 26-28th.

Esports Insider says: It’s good to see another major global event for PUBG be announced, especially considering that the next two Classic events will split up the nine competitive regions. The audience and fan base for PUBG in Asia typically trumps that of other continents so Seoul seems like a sensible and clever choice of location to host the event.
