One of the most anticipated competitions of the season, MDL Disneyland® Paris Major is currently taking place. The competition kicked off on 4th May, and we are done with the group stages. We saw 44 games in the first phase of the competition, which was enough to have a look at the latest meta of the tournament.
We are not surprised to see that the trend of the OGA Dota PIT Minor continues in Paris. Let’s have a look at the core heroes whom you should pick in your ranked games.
(i) Doom
It goes without saying the most popular hero of Dota 2 is Doom. After the buffs of 7.21d, the hero has become a great pick in the offlane. Doom was either picked or banned in over 98% of the games. He was involved in the draft in 59 Games out of the total 60. Meanwhile, in Paris, he has 100% involvement in the draft. Since out of the 44 games of the group stage he has been picked 14 times and banned 30 times.
The small tweak in his Devour ability has played a great role in his resurgence to the competitive landscape. This ability gives him a decent sustain in the early stages of the game. Meanwhile, the Devour talent enables him to out farm other offlaners in the later stages. He is often played like a 3rd position, yet he is still capable to outfarm the core heroes. Some teams didn’t even hesitate to pick him on the supporting role. So we should see a lot of him in the playoffs.
(ii) Drow Ranger
Like Doom, another hero that has risen from the depths is Drow Ranger. Out the 44 games, she has been involved in the 41 games i.e. 93% of the matches. He was picked in 14 games and was banned on 27 occasions. Drow is possibly the most popular ranged hero in the history of the game, yet she still needs assistance from other ranged heroes to work well. In the major, she has single-handedly carried a decent number of games yet other damage dealing cores improve your chances of victory.
In the past weeks before coming into the pro games, Drow got popular in ranked games. Pros avoided to pick her in major tournaments since the hero was too squishy. But still, some teams trusted her in the Minor since she was picked in over 53% of the games. Meanwhile, in Paris, she holds an incredible pick/ban rate and the pros are now well aware to drafted perfectly around the squishy drow.
We might even see other heroes become popular in the playoffs. Since a majority of the heroes are yet to be picked in the competition. Yet, we believe that the Doom and Drow will be in the winning draft of the Paris Major.
