Planet 9 sees Acer Partners and Esports One join together in new partnership

by Ian Zane

Esports One, based in Los Angeles, will collaborate with Acer for the upcoming Planet9 platform. Players will use the esports-focused service to construct teams, engage in competitions, and enhance gameplay performance— including match stats taken and evaluated through the development of Esports One. The agreement’s financial conditions have not been revealed.

“When Esports One first began our conversations with Acer, we wished to know what they really intended to achieve with Planet9,” said Matthew Gunnin, CEO of Esports One. “Being just another information corporation, providing Whitelabel API alternatives, is not in our blood. In Acer, we discovered a partner who saw the future of sports the same as us, putting innovation at the front and middle. “Acer announcedPlanet9 previously this month at its next@acer media meeting at IFA 2019 in Berlin. Players will use the information described in the case as a “social esports platform” to track their efficiency, pairing them with suitable trainers or coaching associates. League of Legends and Dota 2 are currently included with more to follow in Planet9. The platform will launch an open beta in January 2020.

Having announced a $3M USD seed round in January of this year, Esports One partnered with Riot Games Brazil to provide real-time statistics for the transmissions of its Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLoL). Acer is also active as a professional sports sponsor through its Predator brand, which has ongoing deals covering Intel Extreme Masters and Rainbow Six Siege, Dota 2 Team TNC Predator title sponsorship, and a brand ambassador agreement with Mike “Shroud” Grzesiek, one of Twitch’s top streamers.
