Overwolf has launched the PUBG Developers Challenge, an initiative that allows developers to create applications that provide value to PUBG players.
Winning developers will be eligible to receive development funds, marketing boosts, and ongoing support for their applications. The grand winner will receive an additional $15,000 (£11,505.38), too.
The challenged commenced on February 20th with the proposal submission deadline arriving on March 6th. Delivery of the first draft needs to be submitted by March 31st followed by a final submission on May 14th. The winners of the PUBG Developers Challenge will be announced on May 26th.
Uri Marchand, CEO of Overwolf commented on the challenge in a statement: “Our mission is making gaming experiences even more awesome. Inviting developers to take their creative shot at improving an already successful game such as PUBG is a fantastic opportunity to challenge preconceptions and achieve new and better experiences for players worldwide. We’re thrilled to work hand-in-hand with PUBG Corp. and are positive PUBG players will have interesting new tools to use later this year.”
Overwolf partnered with Intel last August to launch a $7 million (£5.46 million) fund for developers. The initiative allows chosen developers to receive grants to build applications that operate within the Overwolf application. This challenge will also allow the winning applications to “get an early start” when applying for an additional budget through the grant.
Tom Carmona, Business Development Manager at PUBG Corp. added: “We love our game to bits, and are always looking for new ways to expand our community and improve experience for existing players. This developer challenge is an outstanding opportunity for us to get innovative ideas and provide more options for our players while empowering independent developers who love our game as much as we do”.
PUBG Corp. is already well underway with the inaugural season of its official PUBG esports circuit. The first global event of the season was announced earlier this month in the form of the FACEIT Global Summit: PUBG Classic. The global event will be hosted at ExCeL London over April 16th-21st.
Esports Insider says: This is an interesting initiative and could genuinely help to improve the experience of those who play PUBG. There are a lot of opportunities within the title for the utilization of in-game analytics, for example, so we’re looking forward to seeing what developers come up with in the following weeks.
