Blockchain voting platform Socios.com has announced a multi-year partnership with Dota 2 team OG.
The deal will see OG become the first esports side to be tokenized; having its own Fan Token available on Socios.com’s mobile application alongside football clubs Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and West Ham United.
Socios.com is a mobile app that allows sports fans to connect with the teams through branded tokens. OG Fan Tokens – which can be purchased, earned or hunted (via in-app augmented reality) – grant fans access to fan polls, exclusive merchandise, games, and leaderboards.
Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO & Founder of Socios.com discussed the company’s first esports partnership: “I’m delighted to welcome OG – our first esports team to the Socios.com platform. Esports has experienced phenomenal growth over recent years, and with an impressive fan base, this growth is set to continue. We’re building a strong ecosystem of top-tier clubs from many different sports verticals and we’re very excited to have OG, the Dota 2 World Champions, to drive that evolution of esports fan engagement.”
Formed in 2015 by Johan ‘nOtail’ Sundstein, OG made its name in the Dota 2 scene at the Frankfurt Major in 2015. The team would follow that up with success in the 2017 Kiev Major when they became the first side to take home four Dota Major Championships. In 2018, the team topped it all by winning The International 2018, taking home just over $11.2 million (£8.9 million) in prize money.
n0tail had this to say on the deal: “Socios.com is an exciting and innovative way for us to offer our fans new experiences, a means to engage with the team they love, and a part to play in the decision-making process of the club. We are proud to be the first esports partner of Socios.com in shaping the future of entertainment, alongside big sports names such as Juventus, West Ham United and Paris Saint-Germain.”
The OG Fan Token will launch in the final quarter of 2019 and will trade via Chiliz ($CHZ).
Esports Insider says: Socios.com has certainly picked a smart esports team to partner with in OG. Joining the likes of PSG, Juventus and West Ham, OG is in good company as Socios.com looks to pair its platform with organisations with large, passionate fan bases.
