Evil Geniuses sought revenge on Ninjas in Pyjamas today by winning 2-0 in Group B’s merger final at the StarSeries I eight.
Two days ago, the North American had a rough start to the tournament and lost to NiP. In order to qualify for the playoffs, EG had to defeat FURIA and Heroic. Now, EG is in the upper bracket and unless they lose again, they will not have to pay extra games.
Like their first game, this time EG demolished NiP on Inferno and Dust II. Ethan Arnold and Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte are Inferno’s deadly duo and accounted for 53 kills, helping EG to the 16-11 map victory. Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg on the side of the NiP was the only one to put up clear fragments and finished with 21 kills.
On Dust II, NiP took the first half, but EG replied once the team moved to the T-side. The North Americans took six rounds in a row, gave NiP two, and then picked up the last three to score 16-9. Tarik Celik was with 25 kills at the top of the leaderboard this time.
EG’s in a much better place to win the tournament now. They could become the best team in the world in the rankings of HLTV with eight championships of the StarSeries I as Astralis and Team Liquid are not there.
Tomorrow will start the playoffs. At 5:30am CT, NiP is set to play against MIBR. Today at 12:30pm CT, EG will face Renegades.
