Tournament and tournament organizer ESL announced today that it will introduce to its UK national ESL Premiership lineup a dedicated Dota 2 tournament thanks to Mercedes-Benz’s patronage.
Previously, the car manufacturer-sponsored Dota 2 tournaments at ESL One events, including the 2018 and 2019 ESL One Birmingham, the former of which was an official Valve Major. Mercedes-Benz will also sponsor Dota 2’s introduction into the ESL Premiership for the UK and Ireland with this newly announced collaboration.
The ESL Premiership currently involves counter-strike competitions: the Global Offensive and the Six Siege Rainbow. The new tournament will be called the ESL Premiership Dota 2 Skirmish, and according to a release, the game is not considered to be a “full Premiership title,” although this may change in the future. The Skirmish is intended to define the region’s rising Dota 2 talent, focusing on personal players instead of created squads.
“The collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and ESL has already proven to be tremendously effective and has led in two incredible 2018 and 2019 Dota 2 ESL One Birmingham events,” said ESL UK Managing Director James Dean in a statement. “The same achievement replicated within the ESL Premiership will be seen by Mercedes-Benz having participated in the domestic competition. It also implies a more diverse service for teams and supporters with even more groups engaged. “The ESL Premiership Winter Finals will take place at the Bowlers Exhibition Center in Manchester, England on 23-24 November, featuring all three games over the night.
