Ludwig Ahgren has been streaming for a full month without stopping, and it seems to be helping his viewership.
This week also saw a weekend full of esports action, with major events in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, and Rocket League all surpassing 2M hours watched.
Twitch’s Top Channel – Ludwig
In 2020, several analysts and fellow content creators identified Ludwig Ahgren as one of the fastest-growing influencers on Twitch. His growth was often punctuated by extreme challenges such as completing particularly difficult games, or creating big events such as the week-long, multi-streamer Pokémon unboxing event. Over the last month, Ahgren has been engaged in another extreme challenge – streaming with a timer that increases by 10 seconds each time a new person subscribes to his channel. When the timer runs out, the stream ends, but it cannot end until the timer expires.
That timer started a month ago, and in that time Ahgren has risen to become the most subscribed streamer on the platform in terms of active subs. He is now second all-time behind Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who saw an unprecedented explosion of subscriber activity following his historic broadcast with rapper Drake.
Ahgren likely would have already exceeded Blevins’ total had he not imposed a restriction that limited the total number of subscriptions a single user could give to other viewers through Twitch’s “gifting” system.
As Ahgren has similarly placed a one-month limit on the total duration of his so-called “subathon,” we will never know just how far his channel could have risen unrestricted, but even with these limitations he was able to nearly double the viewership of Twitch’s consistent leader, Félix “xQc” Lengyel, reaching 8.03M hours watched.
Twitch’s Top Content – Just Chatting
Much of Ahgren’s marathon has taken place within the Just Chatting category, which also saw a spike this week, surpassing 70M hours watched.
The era of Grand Theft Auto V also continues unabated, with the title firmly entrenched in second place at 42.09M hours watched.
