Flashpoint, a global Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) tournament series owned and run by team organizations from B Site, Inc., announced FunPlus Phoenix as the eighth founding team of the league as well as the dates surrounding the league’s first season, Flashpoint 1.
Shanghai-based FunPlus Phoenix, winners of the 2019 League of Legends World Championship, has joined Flashpoint as the 8th founding team and member partner.
“FunPlus Phoenix and Gen.G have a fierce rivalry in League of Legends, so we’re extremely excited to welcome them into Flashpoint and compete with them in CS:GO. This will raise the level of competition and create the kinds of epic matches that fans won’t want to miss,” said Kent Wakeford, co-founder of Gen.G and founding team with Flashpoint.
Inaugural participating teams competing in Flashpoint 1 are C0ntact (Europe), Chaos Esports Club (North America), Cloud9 (North America), Copenhagen Flames (Denmark), Dignitas (North America), Team Envy (North America), FunPlus Phoenix (China), Gen.G (North America), HAVU (Europe), Mad Lions (Europe), MiBR (North America), and Orgless (North America).
Flashpoint 1 format consists of two tournament phases which will award points according to finish and concludes in double-elimination playoff for the top 8 teams based on the point. Each phase in Flashpoint will consist of 12 teams divided into three Groups of four teams each.
Due to health concerns, all matches, including the playoffs, will be played in best-of-three at the Flashpoint studio in Los Angeles.
