DreamHack has canceled its event in the French city of Tours, as it remains in dialogue with host cities for its other festivals this year. The company said the cancellation was made as a precaution and follows directives from the French Ministry of Health, which is now prohibiting any gathering of over 1,000 people. It also follows the World Health Organization (WHO) officially requalifying the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic.

The company has also issued statements regarding several of its upcoming festivals. Authorities in Sweden, where DreamHack is based, has temporarily banned events with more than 500 people, however, it is not clear if this will yet affect DreamHack Summer, which takes place in Jönköping this June. The company said there is no reason yet to think that its Dallas and Valencia events, taking place in May and July, respectively, will be canceled.

Share prices for Modern Times Group (MTG), a Swedish media firm and sole owner of DreamHack, dropped 13.5% since yesterday’s market open. ESL, another company under the MTG portfolio, has had to delay and/or close several key esports events this month.
