Invictus Gaming demolished JD Gaming in the Pro League (LPL) Spring Split Final, 3-0. The match was played in FOSHAN, China on April 21. Invictus reigned supreme in front of 10,000 fans to claim their first LPL trophy of the competitive landscape. The match for the third place took place on April 17 where FunPlus Phoenix beat Topsports Gaming 3-1 to claim the bronze medal.

IG Domination Continues

There were some glimpses of a comeback from JD Gaming in the third game of series when Invictus Gaming didn’t respect their opponent and lost a couple of team fights. However, Yu ‘JackeyLove’ Wenbo, the AD Carry of the team had other plans for Invictus. In one of the most important fights of the game, he got a double kill to keep IG in the game. Shortly after that, in the last fight of the entire series, he managed to get a triple kill. It is fair to say that Invictus Gaming truly deserves this victory since the team was quite strong in the entire 2019 Season.

In the 2018 season, the IG team won the Worlds 2018 in Incheon, South Korea. After claiming the title of World Champions, they also won the Demacia Cup. So now the team really needed to win the LPL since they never won the domestic league.

Respect for JD Gaming

Nonetheless, we surely respect JD Gaming for its remarkable run to the grand finale. The team finished at 8th place and was tipped by many to be eliminated in the first game of the playoffs. Yet they completely outplayed WE and Royal Never Give Up. The biggest triumph of the team was their victory against FunPlusX who finished at first place in the league phase.

Despite coming into the final with strong momentum, JD was completely outplayed in the first two games of the final. The top laner of IG, Kang ‘TheShy’ Seung-Lok controlled the map for his team in all three games of the series. He was the MVP of the finale.

After being crowned the champion of the Spring Split. Invictus Gaming will represent LPL against other league champions at the MSI Mid-Season Invitation in Vietnam. The competition is all set to take place in May. We believe that Invictus is a strong contender for the title. Since, first of all, they are the world champions, after that they won the Demacia Cup 2018 and Now they are the kings of LPL.

Spring split LPL 2019 took place from January 14 to April 21. 16 teams competed for 3.5 million yuan (~ $ 520 thousand), a spot at the Mid-Season Invitational and four slots to the Rift Rivals 2019.
