Low viewership for many top games this past week stemmed from influencers taking time off to attend TwitchCon in San Diego.
Meanwhile, Just Chatting still managed to thrive as some broadcasters used the category to livestream themselves from the convention floor.
The following content is ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.
Stay Classy, San Diego
Despite numerous titles seeing a drop in viewership this week due to influencers taking a break in streaming to attend TwitchCon, “Just Chatting” managed to see a spike in hours watched.
A large part of that boost for Just Chatting comes from influencers who were able to leverage TwitchCon as a way to broadcast themselves while in San Diego. A prime example of that is Félix “xQc” Lengyel who had the second-most hours watched for Just Chatting this week with 961K.
While Lengyel is usually one of the top Just Chatting streamers, two of his streams this past week were exclusively in that category and were titles “IRL JUICE l TwitchCon 2019.” The two streams averaged 32.6K and 48.3K concurrent viewers, respectively, racking up more than 200K hours watched combined.
Can I Kick It?
The official release of FIFA 20 helped EA Sports’ soccer simulator make a statement in the top 10 this week, as many titles saw decreased viewership due to TwitchCon.
Early Access to the game led to viewership on Twitch prior to FIFA 20’s official release date of Sept. 27, and since access to the game began, it has produced more than 1M hours watched all but one day, marking year-over-year growth in Twitch viewership compared to the release of FIFA 19.
Push Pause
World of Warcraft was perhaps the most negatively affected game by TwitchCon this past week. While some titles have esports-related activities that serve as a reliable form of viewership, WoW Classic’s reliance on influencers made it particularly susceptible to a dip.
Following the release of WoW Classic that set records for WoW viewership on Twitch, the title has seen its statistics steadily return to earth, but this week’s decline could largely be attributed to people like Zack “Asmongold” (last name unknown) leaving their streams for a few days to go to San Diego.
Along with Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto V, World of Warcraft is one of the games that are likely to see viewership move back some this coming week as broadcasters return to their normal schedules.
