Last season was not one of the bests in New England Patriots‘ history. And one of the players who also struggled individually was Hunter Henry. The tight end had his worst career season in 2022 with only 509 yards and two touchdowns. But he sees a better future for the Patriots in 2023.
“I think everyone’s excited for a fresh start and a fresh season,” Henry told Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. “Me and Mac are close, we spend a good amount of time together, we’ve been throwing, getting after it, just trying to get ready to go. Everybody will be fired up and be ready to go.”
Henry, 28, joined the Patriots in 2021, coming from the Los Angeles Chargers. He signed a three-year deal at the opportunity, and in 2023 he is going to play through his final year of the contract. If he wants a renewal (or even finding a new team in the next offseason), he needs to play better this season. As well as the Patriots. And this year Hunter will have Mike Gesicki’s company in the TE depth chart.
“I’m pumped, man,” Henry said. “You get here and it feels like the offseason flew by, but you’re excited because football is finally back. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, but excited for it.”

Drafted in 2016 by the (San Diego) Chargers in the second-round, with the No. 35 overall pick, he was part of the franchise move to Los Angeles in 2017. And after four seasons there, he finally joined the Patriots. As mentioned, he had his worst season in 2022. However, one of his best seasons happened in 2021, also in New England.
So far in six seasons played in the NFL, Henry played 89 games. In this period he recorded 287 catches in 420 targets, 3,434 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also suffered (and lost) two fumbles in his career.
