Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 is here, and it’s one of our biggest-ever seasonal changes to the Battle Royale.
The servers might be too crushed for most to download the latest Fortnite patch notes, but we know about all the changes that have hit the game. This latest season moves us into the second of Chapter 5. It’s a much more substantial update than the normal seasonal drops.
Fortnite C5 S2 is based on Myths and Legends, specifically Greek Mythology. It wasn’t the best-kept secret There’s plenty in here we didn’t hear about in Fortnite leaks though.
If you want to stay on top of your game and keep winning in Fortnite, you need to know all the changes. This is everything that’s been updated in the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 patch.
What’s New in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2
At the end of Chapter 5 Season 1, a live event saw Pandora’s Box open in-game. What’s came out of the box though? The Chapter 5 island has had an influx of mythological figures and gear.
Map Goes Back to a Time of Legend
The first major change you’ll notice jumping in is Mount Olympus. The most recognizable spot from this season’s theme and home to Zeus in Fortnite. It’s a new POI that’s got all the splendor of the home of gods.
Grim Gate
It’s not just the gods that have gotten their own POI. The gateway to the Underworld has opened up too. The way in is on the map as Grim Gate. This POI is home to Cerberus, the dog guarding the underworld.
The Underworld
Head past the gateway to hell and you’ll reach the underworld itself. This is a representation of Hades’ domain on the Fortnite map. It’s interesting that our three POIs are so strongly related to the season’s theme. They’re natural homes to the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 Battle Pass skins.
The Underworld shows off some of the new chapter’s impressive lightning. It might be one of the best landing spots in Fortnite C5 S2 too.
Brawler’s Battleground
The Fortnite patch notes for this new season are much bigger than just the normal map changes. There’s yet another new POI. This one is Brawler’s Battlefield, home to Ares. This one completes the spread of new POIs to match the characters in the pass.
We’ve gotten quite a few more POIs than we’re used to for new seasons. It seems Epic has taken the feedback on chapter 4’s lackluster biome updates seriously.
New Weapons in Fortnite C5 S2
The Fortnite patch notes also include a pretty hefty update to the weapons. The balance of what the best weapons in Fortnite Chapter 5 are has changed quite a bit!
New Mythic – Thunderbolt of Zeus
The Thunderbolt of Zeus is this character’s mythic item. This can be used as an attack, with three charges and a cooldown. However, it’ll also propel you up in the air. As a Mythic only one player can wield this power though.
Gatekeeper Shotgun
A new shotgun is here for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2. It’s a shotgun that fires three rounds quickly. It’s in general loot but there’s also a mythic tier item too, available from taking out Cerberus
Harbinger SMG
One area that needed changing this season is the SMGs. The new Harbinger SMG is a fresh addition with more accurate shots. It has better recoil and bloom than most SMGs. It fits in the AR/SMG hybrid we’ve seen in the past.
This weapon is available in the normal loot power. It also drops as Hades’ mythic in a powered-up form.
Huntress DMR
Last season was dominated by the Sniper Rifle, but there’s a different Marksman option this time. The new Fortnite patch notes include a fresh DMR. The Huntress is also in the general loot pool, and available as a Mythic by taking out Zeus.
Warforged Assault Rifle
The worst part of last season’s new guns was the ARs. There’s a new option for Fortnite C5 S2 which could balance that back out.
The Warforged Assault Rifle has higher damage than past ones, a fast fire rate, but more recoil. It’s Ares’ Mythic item and it’s in the general loot pool in its normal form.
Take to the Skies With Wings of Icarus
Another new item for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 which is pretty exciting is the Wings of Icarus. They’re a set of wings where you can fly across the map! By far one of our most exciting mobility items since Fortnite released.
The item is available in general loot but it is a Mythic tier item. That means multiple people can have one, but they’re a bit rarer.
Chain of Hades
A chain-based mythic that pulls in players is also coming in Fortnite C5 S2! However, this one isn’t here from launch. It’ll drop in a future update.
Mythic Mods
Another heightened area for guns in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 are mods. This season they’re sticking around. Now there are mythic mods to content with too though.
These come in a few varieties that boost your performance beyond just changing the gun around. There’s a Thermal scope that gives you the thermal effect on any weapon.
This was previously an effect that mythic weapons had. It’s interesting to see them applied to any gun.
Another mythic mod is the Speedgrip. This doesn’t just increase your firing speed. Your movement speed is doubled while aiming too. Definitely one of the stronger ways to change your gun.
Mythic mods like this are going to make applying modifiers to your loadout even more important. How can you apply them though? There have been some changes to Fortnite Mod Bench locations.
There are still dedicated benches which you’ll need to use. However, they’re now located in specific Weapon Bunkers. These won’t unlock until the midpoint of a match. Claiming them for yourself will be an interesting mid-game objective.
Battle Pass – Myths and Mortals
There’s a new Fortnite C5 S2 Battle Pass this time too! The Myths and Mortals pass has quite a few new skins, like the bosses found on the map. There are also rewards for every game mode.
The crossover skin this season is going to be Korra, from Avatar the Last Airbender. There are tons of interesting cosmetics among all the rewards in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 Battle Pass.
Ranked Fortnite Patch Notes
Epic is continuing to alter the Fortnite Ranked mode in C5 S2. The Fortnite patch notes contain a few changes but they’re a little vague.
This is what Epic’s said about changes to the ranked mode scoring. These changes will seemingly apply to Battle Royale and Zero Builds.
- It will be harder to reach Unreal rank.
- Points won’t be given out for surviving without taking damage.
Epic isn’t being too clear on how scoring works here. It seems they’re cutting down on the quirks of the ranking mode that let so many players meme their way to Unreal without taking a fight.
