Evo 2018’s Smash 4 grand finals were the worst in Evo history.
From the audience, it looked like two friends making a mockery of the biggest tournament of the year
But if you knew the backstory, you knew that it was the culmination of years of hate thrown at them. But they weren’t hated because they were trash talkers or community villains. They were hated because they played Bayonetta.
They picked a top tier because they wanted to win. Instead, their character tore the community apart.

What i find funny is that all the characters in Smash play just like they do in their own games. But the minute someone like Bayonetta show's up who is known for her unique fighting style, gets the boot. Get's shitted on for just doing what she always do. That makes no sense, you cant blame a character that you give commands to for dominating the game.
ok, bayonetta is goat. People play goats in the competitive scene and it's not new.
I'm willing o bet people hated Bayo cause she was the ballot winner more than anything else. Her being broken was a something easy for people to latch on though.

The hate for the players was very excessive. I don’t follow the community stuff really but some did seem kinda like assholes but idk whether the chicken or the egg came first
personally i think this is just a side effect of competitive video games becoming an actual sport. I mean you see this kind of shit all the time with real sports fans.
Ya'll are really overthinking smash bros and Bayonetta….it's a party game and the toxic community was responsible for the toxicity….whiny children who cry "she's broken" rather than learning ways to exploit her weakness.
This is kinda why Sakurai himself was iffy on the competitive scene….ya'll forget that it's just a game…a game filled with jank shit, it's literally fun because it's so jank.
The video has very good points, but I think its exaggerating at some parts (I mean, "destroyed lifes"? thats too far). I'd like to see more specific smash terminology being used instead of just displaying other people's videos and saying: "this happened", feels like they weren't really there when all of this happened. other than that, good video. Hopefully ultimate wont get another broken character.

Bayonetta didn't ruin people's lives. The community did. Bayonetta in smash really showed just how terrible the smash community really is.
This video made me so grateful for having no broken characters in Ultimate (inb4 DLC Pass 2 proves me wrong)
Been a gamer for 30 out of my 37 years alive so far but never played Smash. Just watching the community from time to time makes any sane person with even a shred of social skills stay way the fuck clear of that toxic mess off furries, squeekers and sweaty basementdwellers.
If the situation has taught me anything, it's how childish people are. The tantrums thrown over Bayonetta were embarrassing.
And no, the character itself didn't ruin anyone's life. It's the community.
And that is, where I poop a whole pile of shit on the entire Smash community. Bayonetta is awesome and I don't care that she broke your game. You mad? Play a different game. End of story.

But in all seriousness though… I just hate how all these new characters have new gimmicks that characters from Brawl or before cannot compete with…
– why doesn't Ness' PK Flash OHKO like Hero?
– why doesn't Ness nor Lucas have critical hits like Hero?
– why doesn't Mewtwo have teleport like Hero?
– why doesn't Ivysaur have the longest tether recovery?
– why doesn't Toon Link have Deku Leaf to recover?
– why does Lucario have a Rage mechanic already, doesn't do anything like that in any of the games, movies aren't canon.
– why doesn't Ganon use his swords more or glide
And these are just the suffice… I'm sure a lot of you guys can come up with things that other characters can do in their games that they can't do in Smash but another character can, already…
You know as much as I hate Project M… it does the characters justice way more than Sakurai has done, love the guy but makes some questionable decisions…

I imagine that this is similar to just being disenchanted by SKT T1 winning League Worlds three times but, like, a lot worse.
As an outsider, however, I think it's pretty funny that there was a homie stock at EVO.

Is it really the character’s fault, or is it Nintendo’s fault for not providing support long enough to keep making balance adjustments after the character released? More balance adjustments would’ve done it, but they decided to leave the character the way it is just after one balance patch.
