How Auto Chess Could Take Over the World

by devaccess

More people are playing Dota 2 right now than in the last two years. And it isn’t because of Dota.

What started as a mod for Dota players to toy with in their spare time has exploded into one of the biggest games on Steam.

With over six million subscribers — and a standalone, mobile release on the horizon — we’re witnessing the birth of a new genre, one that could do to Dota what Dota did to Warcraft.

Not a real esport tho. It’s a pure thinking game, not a physical component to it

? I used to think it was okay to shake people's hands, but I realised that white supremacists have been spotted shaking hands. Now I must stop to show solidarity with all the people this doesn't affect in any way. ?

Tencent are just greedy fcks. They ruined the pubg mobile scene by releasing their own emulator. All they care about is money

Once again proves that mods are incredibly important to the development of the gaming community. Players have better ideas than developers a lot of the time, they can freely innovate and try new things without worrying about losing a dollar. DotA its self wouldn't exist without a wc3 mod, tower defense like Bloons wouldn't exist without a wc3 mod, tf2 wouldn't exist without the existence of a mod. Auto chess can survive as a genre on its own, I highly expect standalone auto chess games to start cropping up in half a year. It could be an entirely new strategy game paradigm

Autochess will fade out. I enjoyed it once, but not anymore.

I thought you're obligate to mark sponsored content as such. Because clearly, that wasn't an unbiased report.

In met cafes here in thr Philippines auto chess is installed with a couple of custom games because some people want to play dota but not a full stressful 40 min match of ranked pubs

If autochess gets sold, Valve can straightup just shutdown the mod in am imstant. So i think those devs need to be very careful in what they do.

Nice Chinese mentality there. Mid is successful using the assets you normally can't use like that, alongside shady monetisation.

Auto chess uses the addicting feeling of gambling in it´s core gameplay without trying to use it to sell you loot boxes.
Also the core gameplay is super fun with clear inspiration taken from card games like hearthstone.

It's depth? Excuse me? A game mode fully based on rng has strategic depth… okay.
