Geek Slate and Jaunuel “Jaunuel” Arcilla have confirmed that they have ended their journey together
In the aftermath of an underwhelming Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Southeast Asia (SEA) 2023 Tour 2: Division I campaign, Geek Slate have backtracked on their roster change. The organization took to social media to reveal its separation from position five player Jaunuel “Jaunuel” Arcilla.
We’re saying goodbye to our teammate and friend, @Jaunuel. Your amazing skills in DOTA 2 aside, we’ll miss your incredible sense of humor and fun-loving spirit. You brought laughter and joy to our team, and we wish you all the best in your future.#OnceAGeekAlwaysAFam pic.twitter.com/QrJ3zrEveo

Geek Slate decided to axe the former Fnatic player after they finished seventh in Tour 2, which was well below their expectations. The Malaysian team had brought Jaunuel on board to replace Roger “Roddgeee” Tan ahead of the Tour 2 season. Geek Slate still named Roddgeee on the inactive roster but are yet to recruit a new position five player.
Why Did Geek Slate Drop Jaunuel?
Jaunuel’s exit from the team was a result of a disappointing DPC season, where the team managed to secure only one series victory out of seven. Their only win came against Polaris Esports, the other team that suffered relegation.
Geek were the second-best team in the SEA region in its inaugural season, earning them the right to represent the region at the Lima Major. They could not make it past the group stages, but they produced a commendable display with a team that had several players who had never played a Major before.
The management had felt the need to make squad upgrades to maintain the upward trajectory, so they decided to let go of Roddgeee and sign a more high-profile replacement. Unfortunately, that plan did not work and now they will have to strategize a path back to Division I from Division II.
They would also look to make it to The International 12, which is scheduled to take place later this year. Geek Slate might have to wait till the end of the Berlin Major to secure the signing of another position five player.
