eSports has flourished quite well over the years. Currently, it is a multi-million dollar industry and it looks like that eSports will expand to new horizons in the future. Recently, China Central Television (CCTV) has conducted an investigation through which it has assessed that: In 2018, electronic sports had an appraisal of 8480 million Chinese yuan, which is more than 1100 million euros. The Chinese television further forecasts that this number will multiply by 2020 and will reach up to 2780 million euros.
Some of the renowned eSports platforms in EU and NA published the news. In the report, the Chinese communications giant made an estimate with respect to the esports industry. According to the study carried out by CCTV, the calculations would estimate that there are currently around 50,000 workers within electronic sports in China. By 2020 they believe that these figures would increase to over 250,000.
Not Enough Talent!
With the report, Bang Xu, vice president of Tomorrowland Esports Ltd, has also made some interesting comments. Xu explained the industry has transformed in a few years. He says that three years ago, in 2016 there were only a handful of eSports leagues. Now in 2019, there are over 100 eSports leagues in the country which just shows how rapid the progress made by eSports. He further goes on to say that the only problem in the industry is lack of talent.

Bang Xu thinks it’s great that more and more people are willing to participate in eSports.Yet, today’s generation is still not talented enough compared to the speed of development of the industry.
We believe that in addition to this problem the industry also needs to extend the careers of professionals. Since players don’t have enough time to develop owing to the fierce demands of fierce competition.
No Place in Asian Games
Despite the impressive numbers and the acceptance of the esports as an official profession in China, electronic sports did not get a place within the Asian Games which will take place in Hangzhou in 2022. It sounds a bit paradoxical taking into account the estimated growth within three years. Yet, it is clear that this does not guarantee a spot for eSports along with other traditional sports.
