From Broken Mess to Global Phenomenon: The Story of League of Legends

by devaccess

League of Legends wasn’t always a phenomenon.

It wasn’t always a game that defined an industry, a genre. But it grew, little by little, from a niche community wearing Teemo hats to a force greater than any of us could have predicted.

It has been a calling, a community, a crusade.

So whether you like to pack a stadium to scream at the top of your lungs, or hang out in late-night Discord calls talking smack and taking names — here’s to you, Summoners.

I saw Phreak, and heard his voice again. I remember myself watching a Riven Champion Spotlight on a $10 brick phone because I saw someone play the champ in a public game lounge when this game was still on free play… Gosh, time flies so fast.

I haven't even played League for four years but still watch the tournaments and know several friends the same. It really does mean a lot to people that play or have played it even when we quit or get annoyed with the changes it keeps a lot of loyal fans.
