The Fortnite World Cup helped Epic Games’ battle royale game eclipse the 20M hours watched mark this week, with 14M of that coming on Friday-Sunday.
Meanwhile, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek has helped yet another game, this time Overwatch, see a boost in viewership by playing the title.
The following content is ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.
Victory Royale
Fortnite may not be consistently producing the same sort of viewership as it was last summer, but the World Cup over the weekend certainly showed the power and popularity the game still has as a top form of content on Twitch.
The game’s 14M hours watched from Friday through Sunday wasn’t solely on the main Fortnite channel either. Co-streams by top influencers like Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Turner “Tfue” Tenney, and Ryan “Chap” Chaplo all contributed to the game’s category giving a clearer picture of how many people were truly viewing the event on Twitch.
Tactical Tables
League of Legends might be the most established game on Twitch over the past couple of years, but the continued success of its subgame mode Teamfight Tactics has continued to generate notable viewership that’s taking away from the main game itself.
TFT saw a bit of a short decline before a recent Twitch Rivals event stimulated viewership for the strategy-based auto-battler. That combined with a dip in viewership for LoL esports leagues, the LoL Championship Series and LoL European Championship , this summer compared to their Spring Splits that were laden with audience growth has prevented LoL from reaching the potential viewership many are used to seeing from it.
The Shroud Bump
For a couple of weeks in July, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek revitalized Apex Legends , which saw a quick exit from the top 10 after multiple weeks of producing 30M hours watched on Twitch. However, now Grzesiek is using his strong viewership base to give a boost to yet another game.
While Overwatch is often in the lower portion of the top 10, due primarily to the viewership generated by the Overwatch League , Grezesiek’s 29 hours of airtime on the title and 822K hours watched for the week gave the game an extra nudge in viewership that pushed it even a little bit further up the charts than it typically sits.
