Fortnite Chapter 5 esports will be starting up within a few days of the new FN season first launching! Our first tournaments will begin in just a few days but the full FNCS might be seeing some bigger changes. After Fortnite OG had a more stripped-back layout, what can expect for Fortnite Chapter 5 tournaments?

While last season was more of an interlude between tournaments, events are back in full force for the new season. Even before the winter break’s lull in events, there are quite a few good cups that are going on. We’ve got some platform specific cups kicking off within the very first week of the season. At the highest level of Fortnite esports, things are a bit more unknown with full details of the 2024 FNCS not yet revealed. However, there is plenty to get stuck into with Cups over December and heading into January.

How is the new build of the game different for competitive? Epic has let us know about a few changes for tournaments. They’ve also made more adjustments to their regular tournaments. This is everything you need to know about Fortnite Chapter 5 esports and the Fortnite C5 Tournaments you can get involved in.

The Fortnite Chapter 5 esports have seen some big changes from last season. The bizarrely named OG Skirmishes are gone and some normality has returned to the tournament. Most days of the week will see different events take place, so players always have something to look forward to. There’s a mixture of cash and cosmetic tournaments taking place, including some events only on console.

Your grade in Fortnite Ranked Mode has been reset for the new season. Jumping in, you’ll have to grind back up if you want to compete at the highest level. If you’re making the most of new features like Medallions and the best Fortnite weapons it shouldn’t take too long though. These are the tournaments that will be featured in Fortnite Chapter 5.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Tournaments

  • Mix-Up Mondays
  • Solo Victory Cash Cups
  • Duos Zero Build Victory Cash Cups
  • Duos Cash Cups
  • Duos Console Cash Cups
  • Ranked Cups
  • FNCS (Eventually)

The big event for Fortnite, the FNCS, is making a return but not just yet. Epic isn’t giving out details on how 2024’s esports season will be run just yet. We’ll have to wait and see what they decide for that after the Holidays for the highest level of Fortnite Chapter 5 esports. Last year, they experimented with an in-person LAN and Majors structure, but they could choose to reinvent the wheel again this year with another format change.

Scoring Changes in Fortnite C5 Tournaments

There are some Scoring Changes which have been made for Fortnite Chapter 5 tournaments. You’ll still gain points for grabbing kills and placement. You’ll also get points for the forecast Towers and Rift Island POIs. While these other objectives are rewarding, there aren’t points for securing Medallions. Although the competitive edge they’ll give you probably means there may as well be for Fortnite C5 tournaments.

Tournament Loot Changes

Fortnite is a game with a lot of wacky fun items, which isn’t always great for tournaments. For a while, Epic has been utilizing a different build of the game when they’re hosting official events. While not playable in Ranked mode, this separate playlist has adjustments to the loot pool. This season, the following items aren’t going to be available in the tournament build for Fortnite Chapter 5 Esports.

  • Trailsmashers Cars
  • Sports Cars
  • Cluster Clingers

This list could widen over time. Medallions being active doesn’t seem like a recipe for a fun and balanced tournament. We’ll have to see how Epic reacts to the early events and how much of an impact they end up having.

That’s how the tournaments are going to work, but what changes are going to affect gameplay? There’s the obvious addition of Mods to weapons. These make five drop spots particularly overpowered thanks to being the only Fortnite mod bench locations. Plus, there is the whole movement change. This is going to have a massive impact on pro events.

The movement change controversy has been acknowledged by Epic. They’ve said players should take some time to adjust. However, this might not be the end of it. Their official communication seemed to make clear that they were aware of the problems but wanted players to give it a chance. That means it’ll definitely be like this for the Fortnite C5 tournaments in the first few weeks.

If after a few weeks, the uproar hasn’t died down, we might see this reinstated. This could mean these early cups are the only tournaments we see played with scuffed movement speeds. Although, Epic could also stick to the new movement in which case we might see players struggling to adjust to the different timing for the whole of Fortnite Chapter 5 esports.

We’ll hear more about how the FNCS 2024 is going to work in the New Year after the Winterfest update. Until then, the cups are starting early if you can’t wait to see how pro players in a competitive setting adjust to the new games.
