Registration for August’s Evolution Championship Series (Evo) 2019 fighting game tournament has closed, and a look at the available data shows a nearly 20% rise in player registrations over 2018’s total.
According to data compiled from online tournament platform Smash.gg by SRK Stats , which accounts for players signing up for multiple games, a total of 9,173 competitors have registered for the event. That’s a 19.69% increase over the 2018 total of 7,664 players.

With that total, Evo 2019 will be the second-largest iteration to date when ranked by competitor count. The largest year to date was 2016 with 9,899 players, more than half of which were registered for Capcom’s then-new Street Fighter V . In 2019, Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Evo 2019 takes place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas from August 2-4, with several sponsors already announced. Samsung , SIMPLE Mobile , ZOWIE , Astro Gaming , DXRacer , and NISSIN Cup Noodles will sponsor the competition, plus the event will sell crossover merchandise based on the Netflix anime series, Hi Score Girl.
